I've been looking at used LT's for quite some time. I've been riding for 38 years. Never owned a BMW before. I've been riding cruiser bikes for the past 10 years and am ready to move to something a little more "peppy" and comfortable for long trips :) . I'm currently looking at a 2003 model with around 15,000 miles. What is a fair price?

Also any advice on this particular model would be appreciated.

Hello,

I have one of those, an 2003 LT Exodus which means it have all the factory installed exstras.

It is a great bike :)

I guess you can get them from 10k to 14k, I piad 12k for mine but that one was in exelent condition and had 14 200 miles on it.

The 2003 have the redesigned Final Drive which is not that much prone to have failures, it also have the Integral brakes and of course the ABS and it workes very nice, I know becouse only yesterday I happen to drive thru an oil spill and it was almost like the bike helped me thru it.

Others know more about this bike so just wait and you will get lots of good info :)

Good luck

Pål

When I want to find a fair price, I check KBB.Com or the NAPA price guide and expected miles/accessories and go from there. By that, I mean I use KBB to set the mean price then add/remove $$$ based on fewer/extra miles, added accessroeis, overall condition (damage is a big price dropper as is long term storage because seals go bad).

Anything else is based on what you and the owner can negotiate. If both are happy, then it is a fair price.

I bought an '03 LTC thru eBay. It had only 10700 on the clock at the time (last Nov). I paid less then $9k. I was bidding on an '02 with ~30k which I would have paid $8600 if the guy had a free title(which he didn't). Buying on eBay is a bit scary, but if you find one close by, you can make the sale contingent on seeing it or maybe even a pro inspection. I have seen this vintage priced all the way up to $13k with dealers.

I bought my 03 for $8500 with 11500 miles in April from this board.

I bought it in Florida, flew in, rode back to Arizona 2400 miles no problems.

Not much twisting there, that is way older and without the "new" FD and without the great addition of integral brakes + more...I think it is kind a exspencive! :p

Bought my '03 LTC for a bit less than that three years ago. It had 1300 miles on it. I missed out on one that went for 12,500 but it had a GPS.

It is more then understandable that you can get them cheaper there becouse you live there and can buy from a private indvidual. I who did not even go there to look at it before I bought it ,from a dealer, would rather have that security and pay a bit more.

Next time I will "hire" a friend from this forum to find the right bike at the right price and have it shipped back to me. I`d might even come over and ride it for a few weeks before I let it of at some shipping agent. :)

Make all the arrangements so you can pick it up before CCR one year and you got a bike to ride during the reunion.

I picked up my 02'LTE with 1200 miles last fall for $10k. I thought it was a good deal. I have put another $1k into it just to make it ready for my next ride. Whenever that is. :(
