Hey, Shawn, Ranks, Spencer, and the rest of you guyz up around NE OK --- y'all alright following the tornado activity the other day? Wonderin'. I have family in Baxter Springs and Galena, KS; and in Miami. So far, they've dodged the bullet with just minor hail dents, etc.

Not so good down around Picher, OK. That's just a few miles from my homestead in Baxter. Picher wuz on the way to being a government imposed ghost town, due to the effects of longtime mining activities making it questionable as to structural integrity for above ground activity!!

I think that the town-buyout has been in the works for a coupla years, butt the folks who held out have really got a problem now. Last I heard, there isn't gonna be any rebuilding there. I don't have the complete picture, butt that is as I unnerstand it.

For some aerial shots of the devastation, click here. (http://www.tulsaworld.com/webextra/content/2008/slideshows/picher_tornado/index.aspx)

Anyway, hope all you folks up around that area have thangs to be thankful for and are safe with family. Best.

Yep - missed Boerne this time. We got a goodun last night - leetle over an inch of rain pretty quick; lotsa wind; no hail.

BTW - I've given up on Accuweather and Intellicast; too hard to navigate around for me. So now I use the NOAA Mosaic site. Try it and see if you like, if you don't already use it. You can get region and 'hood specific if you wanna. Check it out here. (http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ridge/Conus/full_loop.php)

Be safe, Chan.

Most of the naders have been east of OKC. We had a small F1 hit town a couple of days ago, no injuries, just a couple buildings damaged.

We usually get a good dose, but this year, so far, knock on wood, theyve been elsewhere.

On the news, Fema's gonna provide some relocation assistance to Pricher folks, but nothing for rebuilding. Didn't know about the mining and integreity bit.

I've had a couple of big ones get within 1-5 miles of my house in the past, but never had any damage.

I work with one of the luckiest fellas around. His neighborhood was flattened in the May 3 F5, and the next years F4 that hit moore, ok. His house never lost a shingle.

Another fella had roof damage, and when the storm was over found a couple bails of hay in his attic. Being in the middle of town, he thought that was something.

Thanks for the checkup.

Hope the season ends without any major tradgedy. Even the small ones are bad, ifin you're the one that gets damage.

Thanks, Dick.. will do..

Friend of ours up in Oklahoma posted that someone lost their Doberman in the storm.. They were very distraught as you might imagine...

After a brief search their phone rang. Someone had their dog, unhurt... 6 miles away...

They picked him up and bathed him several times.. it took them over an hour to get the dirt out of his ears..

They said the dog was really happy to be home...

I don't know exactly where Shawn lives, but know its near Bartlesville.

Haven't heard much in the news about that area (which is usually good).
I know they got some strong winds and hail.

From what I've heard most of the bad stuff was farther east of him, and down south by McAlister.

He'll probably post up soon enough.

I also use noaa.

Seems to be the most accurate to me.

The also update there forecasts more frequently than most others.

Plus their web pages have lots of good links to historical data and stuff.

Great place to visit when planning a trip, or even a day ride.

Were alive. The one the other day missed us by about 4 miles or so..

Not even worth looking up from dinner.

I think I'd probably run out to that new building of mine before I stayed in the house.

We've had so many come within a couple of miles that we don't even get excited about them anymore.

The sight is ok, very much like www.wunderground.com. I think wunderground loads faster. I'll have to speriment with NOAA a bit.

PS, dont look for me at *$$ Fri, gotta run SWMBO to the airplane. I've got a weeks vacation! Ooops, I mean she does!

OK :( So - can I have your Carmel Machiatto?

Actually, Woody is buying me one in exchange for the Odyssey battery that ole Toad no longer needs, so we'll take a rain check on your appearance, Russ.

"Cathy - have a great vacation."

Wouldn't that be Camel Machiatto?

NOAA is the source that all the others- Intellicast, TWC, etc. - pull their data.

Yeah, I know - I just don't like trying to navigate around the 'others' websites, and the hoops I have to jump thru to get wx data where my relatives are relatively livin'! :) I like the NOAA mosaic cuz you can scan the whole country in seconds without having to change screens. And I think it updates faster, and is more current - just seems to me, anyway.

And with regard to the local folks. It's just that some of the data gets lost in the transfer. Like you know - a rain shower is a severe thunderstorm! I don't like the translations they come up with, so I watch the 'horse's mouth', so to speak. (And absolutely no dig at TBird - he knows me! ;) ).

Sent and got an email from Shawn.
He's ok. Not spending much time on board lately.
