Hi, Mark -

Over in the Accessories pages, I found this section (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/faq.php?faq=accessories_faq#faq_accessories_faq_ergonomics) on ergonomics and it includes several of the armrest vendors. In addition to those, you can check out Don Muddiman's set, which lotsa folks like. Good luck.

Can't say enough good about the eagle-1 . Very sturdy and IMHO the best that's out there !

I disagree with the "best" as I bought the GG Technic version instead as I preferred the padding on it and the associated comfort level. However, I will definitely say they are the best product for the associated value. Plus GG Technic & Don's armrest both share the same mounting method, fold back, and will rlease in a crash.

Much better options than the ZTechnic method (drilling in to the side case) or other choices out there.

As for Mark, if you really want to see what is available, just do a google search for K1200LT armrests. You will get a slew of responses and an hour or two of your time researching will provide the answer for you. Everyone here is going to have their own choice, as will your dealer, but you'll need to make up your own mind.

I suggest you keep two thinkgs in mind doing your research:

1) Who are the armrest for (you or your passenger)? That determines who really gets to choose what is best for them.

2) How oftern are you going to ride with a passenger? That determine the type of armrests you may want to buy. I put it that way because some fold straight back making opening the case easy, or mounting easy, etc. and some do not. Download the mounting instructions where possible and check it out.

Also, if for the passenger consider floorboards too. Some like them. Some do not. But it makes mounting so much easier for my wife and daughter than neither wants to give them up. I held out on purchasing and just kept searching e-bay. I got a steal on some used adjustable BMW chrome floorboards. Normally $600 ~ $750. I paid less than $250 delivered. e-Bay can be your frind. :)

I have had both the GG's and the Eagle 1's from Don. I definitely prefer the Eagle 1's from Don. The padding on the GG's gave up after about 2 years and parts are not available for them.

I also like the fact that you can remove the arms from the Eagles and the bike looks like nothing has changed.

Don also provides the best set of instructions you will find anywhere.

While I agree that the Eagle-1 and GG's are more stealth, I have the Z-Technic as a result of my SO testing and picking what suited her best. I think it depends on your pillion what is the best choice. Mine is 5-11 and she's sized appropriately for a 40+ yr old with 3 kids.

If you opt for the Z-Technic, check the template with the parts to validate match. Copiers can shrink or expand an image and very slight differences would cause you to drill just far enough off scale to cause problems. I was given this advice and it saved me a great deal of time and frustration by matching up and using a pen through the mount to mark the center on the page. "Measure & verify as many times as you need to make you comfortable and drill only once." As a result, my installation went quickly and flawlessly. Had them on for about 6 months now. Recently took a 2 day 400+ mile hill country tour for our anniversary, and she was very pleased with how they performed on a "long" trip.

Good Luck on your quest.

Ron,

When you say the padding gave up on you, can you be more specific? I'd like to make sure that it doesn't happen to me if possible as that is why I bought the GG Technic version over Don's.
