Thanks for a great ride Dan (Reelman). All was going so well meeting at 10am and making Rockaway Beach a little after noon. The "Beach Bite" resaurant is a good stop on the GT and hwy 53 was a fun way to get there.

Then it was off to Waldport to Buck"s Ranch House. After a gas stop in Tillamook on 101 a kind lady from BC (confused by our traffic patterns) made an abrupt left turn into us.:( Horn and a whole lotta brake and she still kept comin'. Damn! It was quick and we were down on the left side and slidin' off the road and into a driveway. Dan was right behind us too.

Pauline did everything right.:D She stayed with the bike until almost stopped and she rolled off. I stayed with the bike trying to keep from getting my left leg under it. Pauline has a sprained left ankle and I have a sprained right wrist.

The LT sustained some brusies though. The left (brand new I might add!) Jpeg XL was scraped real bad. the asphalt ground about 1/2 inch off that piece. The lower fairing is scraped as is the side stand, the center stand lever and the muffler cover. As far as I can tell that is all the damage, but I will have to take the tupperware off the left side and check it out thoroughly.

My First Gear MeshTex did its job as did Pauline's. Both of us had good boots and that saved our hide as well, however my BMW Airflow boots are plenty messed up (at least the left boot).

We walked away, and then rode away. Can't ask for much better than that under the circumstances.

Many thanks to the locals who called 911, and the local help from the the Paramedics who checked us and the officers that made the reports. The lady who caused the ruckus is on her way to California in her red Chevy SUV, so watch out guys and gals! At least she stayed and did her part to comply with the law. We are grateful for that.

And thank you Dan for being an excellent support to us in that uncomfortable situation, and the one that followed with the second visit from a local LEO in Philomath. Officer Hanke, who BTW rides a GS when he is not clocking motorcyclists in his nice town at 45 in a 25, is a nice guy. He confirmed our hair-raising day and took pity and kept our record of over 131,000 miles ticket free. Dan, you are one stand up guy to stay with us through that one too, however I still can't understand why he didn't ask for your licence and info too?:histerica He musta thought I was on a wing and he saw you were on an KR. He later asked how we like our K bike. He wished us safe passage through his town and on our way home. A true gentleman and scholar for sure.

No matter. All's well that ends well, right?:o

Ernie, I'm so sorry, but glad you guys weren't really hurt as certainly could have been much worse. Hope all the repairs and healing goes well.

WOW!
A slider and an attempt at a ticket in the same trip! Remind me not to stand next to you in a lightning storm!
Seriously, glad that you guys are relatively Ok and that your gear did it's job. How did it affect Pauline's bad hip? Did your helmets get smacked/scratched up? I had an acquaintence down in Phoenix who a couple of months ago had a low speed get off from his Harley and smacked his head (sans helmet) and is no longer with us. Such a waste.
Again, very glad that your angel was watching out for you.
ATGATT!!

Ernie, so sorry to hear about the slide. Not that it will help your scars, but we too have BTDT years ago in a land far far away (California, actually!). Our LT also had the left scars but my left knee got caught under the bike during the slide in the gravel. And we were not wearing our riding pants, just Levis! Hopefully you fared much better thanks to ATGATT. That mishap years ago is why we subscribe to ATGATT these days!

We hope the sprains are not too painful for you guys. Heal thyselves!

Sorry to hear about your get off Ernie, Damm glad you and Pauline are okay. the bike has been looking so good too. And 131K worth of farkles too! I hate cage drivers who do not pay any attention. If you need any help let me know. As for the rest of you out there, Be careful, if it could happen to Ernie it could happen to anyone. His riding skills are past top notch.

Wow, bummer. Glad you're all three doing OK. ;) It seems your top notch gear and skills paid off.

I do find it amusing that there's one sentence on your minor injuries, and a whole paragraph on the damage to the bike. :)

We'll keep an eye out for the red SUV down here, but I'm afraid she'll just get lost in a sea of morons. :(

Take care of yourselves, and let us know if there's anything we can do.

It all happened so quickly….The car turned right into Ernie and somehow he reacted fast enough to avoid what would have been a very serious collision. If it had been me, I think I may have become part of the door molding. Thank goodness that Ernie knew what to do and had the skill to pull it off. This could have been a very bad accident.

Ernie and Pauline, I hope you folks heal quickly and completely. I know it is of little consequence, but the lady’s insurance does owe you some new bike parts. They should replace everything that sustained damage. I hope everything goes smoothly on that side of things as well. Thanks for letting me tag along on what was otherwise a beautiful ride.

WOW! Sorry to hear about this incident Ernie. However, I am glad that you both are relatively in good shape. Heal fast and thank the Lord that you are upright and taking nourishment.

Be blessed!!

Ernie and Pauline -

I logged on this AM to read about your weekend ride and had no clue it included a clueless SUV driver and a slide. Glad to hear that your quick response and ATGATT served you well in a close call and you both walked away-- geez, and rode away. That green machine will shine again!

What was she thinking anyway?

Another adventure that we can all discuss over dinner and drinks:) Glad that you are both okay. Maybe I'll start wearing my riding pants and boots more:o

What was she thinking anyway?I can answer that one Denny:

The lady was thinking she was on a two-way street. We were actually on a two lane one-way street. She was in the right lane and we were in the left heading in the same direction and just behind her. She wanted to turn left and thinking she was on a two-way street she only looked for oncoming traffic and turned hard left right into Ernie and Pauline.

Thanks, Dan - one more item to put in the watch out list.

Hey guys, thanks for all the kind words and thoughts. We are doing fine. Still a few bruises healing but not that bad for what it could have been. The hard part is dealing with the insurance company. I have an appointment at BMWWO in Tigard on Saturday for them to take it apart and do an estimate. I hope all goes well. I'm not ready for the next bike, I have a lot of miles yet to put on this one.

Ernie,

Glad to hear that all is well - OR - all is better than could have been expected. We know how costly fixing the LT can be. Glad that you and Pauline are healing and that the injuries were minor. Now the bike will look like new - after 130,000 miles :-} Hope her insurance pays easily and in full.

Glad to hear both of you came out of it with only minor damage to the flesh. Quick thinking/reactions and ATGATT paid good dividends! Hope your bike fairs as well.

OMG!! OK, now that my jaw is off the ground... Ernie, I can't tell you how glad I am that you two are alright.....albeit banged up, but alright. The whale can be fixed and if we can help out don't hesitate to ask. So just do what the Doc says and get healed up bud.
