Thanks for a great ride Dan (Reelman). All was going so well meeting at 10am and making Rockaway Beach a little after noon. The "Beach Bite" resaurant is a good stop on the GT and hwy 53 was a fun way to get there.
Then it was off to Waldport to Buck"s Ranch House. After a gas stop in Tillamook on 101 a kind lady from BC (confused by our traffic patterns) made an abrupt left turn into us.:( Horn and a whole lotta brake and she still kept comin'. Damn! It was quick and we were down on the left side and slidin' off the road and into a driveway. Dan was right behind us too.
Pauline did everything right.:D She stayed with the bike until almost stopped and she rolled off. I stayed with the bike trying to keep from getting my left leg under it. Pauline has a sprained left ankle and I have a sprained right wrist.
The LT sustained some brusies though. The left (brand new I might add!) Jpeg XL was scraped real bad. the asphalt ground about 1/2 inch off that piece. The lower fairing is scraped as is the side stand, the center stand lever and the muffler cover. As far as I can tell that is all the damage, but I will have to take the tupperware off the left side and check it out thoroughly.
My First Gear MeshTex did its job as did Pauline's. Both of us had good boots and that saved our hide as well, however my BMW Airflow boots are plenty messed up (at least the left boot).
We walked away, and then rode away. Can't ask for much better than that under the circumstances.
Many thanks to the locals who called 911, and the local help from the the Paramedics who checked us and the officers that made the reports. The lady who caused the ruckus is on her way to California in her red Chevy SUV, so watch out guys and gals! At least she stayed and did her part to comply with the law. We are grateful for that.
And thank you Dan for being an excellent support to us in that uncomfortable situation, and the one that followed with the second visit from a local LEO in Philomath. Officer Hanke, who BTW rides a GS when he is not clocking motorcyclists in his nice town at 45 in a 25, is a nice guy. He confirmed our hair-raising day and took pity and kept our record of over 131,000 miles ticket free. Dan, you are one stand up guy to stay with us through that one too, however I still can't understand why he didn't ask for your licence and info too?:histerica He musta thought I was on a wing and he saw you were on an KR. He later asked how we like our K bike. He wished us safe passage through his town and on our way home. A true gentleman and scholar for sure.
No matter. All's well that ends well, right?:o
