Where did you all ride to last weekend? We were doing family activities on Saturday and I worked Sunday missing out on some real good riding weather.
So? Where did you ride?

I rode the GS to the dealer on Saturday because it has been exhibiting some electrical charging problems :(. Multiple symptoms not worth going into, replaced battery, checked/cleaned connections, no short circuit, etc.. It's on extended warranty so I didn't dig any deeper. Most likely it's the alternator though a ZFE module is a remote possibility. It's due for a 24k service in 150 miles, which I was going to do myself, but while they have it torn apart they may as well do the service too.
So Sunday I rode the LT to a benefit breakfast at the Chimacum Fire Hall. The money helps support their volunteer fire department. My veteran motorcycle groups supports it every year. We got about two blocks from the Fire Hall when my shift linkage broke :brick:.
I had a nice breakfast and then went out look things over. The link on the shift lever broke off at the transfer link just like everyone said it could. It's my own fault, I have had the super duper replacement part for a year and just procrastinated installing it. I mean if it ain't broke don't fix it right :stupid:? I even had the link with me but I had no way to get the broken bolt out .
When it broke I was in second gear so I put it into third gear, put the footpeg plate back on and rode the 95 miles home. 60 MPH is about 5200 RPM. Rufus has a nasty little vibration in the 4800-4900 RPM range in third gear but smooth as silk at 5200.
I tried to easy-out the bolt last night after work but it seems to be pretty frozen up. I didn't wan't to risk breaking the easy-out off so I am letting some penetrating oil do it's thing for a while. I may have to take the rest of the linkage out to get the job done. While rummaging around with the linkage I noticed that there is another link that goes from the shifter arm on the transmission to the inside arm of the transfer link. It appears to be a shorter version of the link that broke. I wonder if this one should be upgraded too ? I guess I need to search the forum to see if that link has had a breakage problem too.
I guess it's a good thing I have a Harley in the garage too :histerica.

Ernie,
I was wondering the same thing. Very quiet out there. I spent the weekend installing some lights and a tire pressure system and of course new tires for the Red river trip. I think every one else is secretly aquiring GT check points..

The weather was so nice Saturday that I rode over to BMWOR in Tigard and then over to Portland Motorcycle. I was looking for a new hot weather jacket at the Tigard store. I couldn’t find anything so I tried my best to find someone to help me. I finally tackled someone and ask them if they had the Venting Machine Jacket. The sales person said sure and promptly led me to the Vending Machines….
My visit to Portland Motorcycle didn’t go much better. They were having some sort of demo day and I never did find out where everyone was getting their free hotdogs.
Anyway, when I got home I jumped into the Ural and took my grandson, Taylor, for a short ride in the sidecar. We went straight to DQ of course. I was quite proud when Taylor finished off a medium Blizzard (well, except for a few bites). He obviously will grow up to be a fine motorcyclist. :D

Got a 200 mile shorty in on Sunday. Was planning on 400, but the rear tire on my buddy's bike had other plans...

We were in Vegas over the weekend and I would love to tell you about it, but, you know the rule: "What happens in Vegas..." Sorry, it was really good stuff too...

Medium Blizzard is quite respectable for your Grand son Dan, but what about Grandpa? Should have been at least a Large one!
As far as Saturday goes, I also stopped by Portland Motorcycles sometime between 10 & 11, but do not recall seeing you there. Sorry we missed each other.
We did get in a decent ride on Saturday afternoon though. Headed for the coast with Art & Marcia (on her own Bike, by the way!) via little towns like Timber, Jewel & Olney via 202 till we somehow found Astoria. I then proceeded to do my usual expert bit of navigating via my GPS till we were not really sure just where we were, but it was beautiful anyway! We eventually found Hwy 101 and might have cruised a little further down the coast, but yours truly here had to get back in time to arrange for dinner since Marilyn was working till later, so we headed back this way via 26.
Now I know we did discuss the possibility of adding some gas to Marcia's Vulcan, but for some reason decided the Bike could make it back home without. Oops! Must have been about halfway up the grade or better when a certain Kawasaki started to sputter! Marcia got to find out where that Reserve lever is in a hurry!
Long story shortened somewhat, we did manage to make it over the crest and down to the most beautiful Shell station we have ever seen at the bottom of the grade! I really did not want to have to go begging for gas from locals, or trying to do a Mcgiver thing on our LT's to get fuel!
Got back at a reasonable time and really did have a great day on the Bike enjoying the weather. Just wish Marilyn could have been with us. Marcia is getting better on her Bike with every ride as far as I can tell though. Oh yeah, Art & I both figure 100 miles is a really good time to refuel any cruiser type Bikes!

Joel and I were down in Laughlin for the weekend. A lot shorter ride from Phoenix than from PDX! Had a great ride, lunch (and scenic vistas with all the boats out), in Lake Havasu on the way up and a good time (what happens in Laughlin...) you know the drill. About a 500 mile weekend on the bikes and about 5 miles on the boots walking all the vendors.

Hey Dan -
All hail Taylor!! I'm impressed and personally offer his next blizzard injection on me.
Unfortunately Michele and I were in Eugene for a seminar and didn't get a chance to ride. I did meet another BMW rider in our seminar and planning to hook him up with some other riders. Anyway, got to talk BMW rides!

We did discuss getting gas but since she had just under 1/2 tank I thought we'd be good to get back to our house. Marcia had to hit reserve at about 125 miles. She stumbled a bit on that chore but did ok.
I knew that once we hit the tunnel that we'd be good to go since it was all down hill to the Shell station where we got to pay $3.95.9 per gallon.
Had we run out my option would have been to park the bike and have Marcia jump onto mine and ride down to the gas station and borrow a gas can.
Hey John. What did you end up fixing for Marilyn for dinner anyway?
All in all it was all good:) :) :)

Based on some of my past experiences :o I've started carrying a couple of these (http://www.msrgear.com/stoves/fuelbottle.asp):

Two of the large bottles gives 1/2 gallon, which just may be enough to keep me out of trouble. :) I'm still trying to figure out the best way to mount them to the bike, rather than just tucking them into the bags.

Uh, Let's see, chicken? Er, no, was it some delicious roast Pork? Yeah, that's what it was Art! Oh yeah, Tks very much to you and Marcia for saving this old guy from having to ruin a dinner! I know Marilyn appreciated the gesture, and we did enjoy the company along with a few beers to wash things down buddy!
And as far as the gas went, if she had run out completely you could have just stayed there with her and let me go fetch some gas to bring back to ya. With my GPS to guide me to the gas station and back it's not like I could have gotten lost or anything! Right?
It really was a fun day overall guys, and one more time, you can feed us anytime Art!

Good ride (and non-ride) reports. ;) What's planned for this weekend? We are going to get some GT Checkpoints this weekend. We're not sure which at this point though. If the weather holds we might head down the coast for two or three. You guys ridin' or sittin? :D

Gotta go to a friends birthday party on Saturday. Will not be getting home until late morning Sunday. I am also going to miss the one day only shrimp season. Dang good shrimp too! I guess I am going to have to wait until after Red River before I get my 2nd GT point! Enjoy your rides
