View Full Version : Issues with Photo Gallery

I was trying to upload pictures from the bike show to the gallery last night. I ran into a few issues -

After I would upload pictures and add notes when I hit the "process" button it would dump me to a blank screen with no navigation back to the gallery or main page. I had to manually edit the URL to get back to the opening page of the gallery.
I uploaded 2 batches of 5 pictures, but only 8 came through and 2 of the pics from the 2nd batch ended up duplicates of some from the 1st batch. I've looked everywhere and all 10 are nowhere to be found.
When I try to view the 8 pics that sorta made it via a slideshow or other method a few pictures have thumbnails but the actual picture won't display. You just get a box with a red "X" in the upper left corner.
I was unable to get it to accept any pictures after the 1st 10 I uploaded. The first time through it acted like it accepted them but they never showed up. I tried a couple more times with no success, and it appeared the system didn't even attempt to upload the last try.
I thought there was an option to create separate albums under my member gallery. I could swear I saw that while we were beta testing the site. Did we take it away or am I just confused (certainly a possibility)?
There were 2 or 3 pictures in my member gallery when I started this whole endeavor, and now they have disappeared completely. I've done several different searches and they're nowhere to be found. They weren't important, but it the system appears to have deleted them without warning nor prompting me if I wanted to toss them.
I ended up modifying my website and posting them there so it's not urgent for me to get these problems addressed. But if other folks with less options or computer skills are running into them, or we want to avoid them doing so, we should probably look into them.

Thanks.

Hmmmm - I'm not going to be any help here, Dave; butt I just tried to upload my first pic to the gallery and after answering all the dialogue box's questions, all I got wuz a blank screen after the 'submit' click. Tried it two different times, and the same blank screen result. I had chalked it up to maybe the pic being too large; butt I would've thought I'd been scolded for trying to upload it!! Anyway, I gave up and the moment has passed, so I'll give it another try at the next opportunity. Sorry I'm no solving help.

David,

I just uploaded 2 batches of 5 pictures each and had no issues. I went through what looked like the same steps as you did. Can you try it again?

If your pictures are larger than 1MB you might be getting a browser timeout (hence the blank screen). If your browser is timing out, there's not much on the server end we can do. I have lowly DSL with a 384KB upload limit, and was able to upload those MV Agusta pictures without a timeout.

Until I am able to duplicate the problem, there's nothing I can do to fix it.

The pictures were less than 200k each. When you say 1MB, do you mean individually or total for all 5? It wasn't a timeout problem; I regularly test out at 440 - 500kb upload on my DSL service. I'll try again and see if I can get better steps.

BTW, can I delete the pics after I upload them? that was another option I weas looking for but didn't find.

I ran the tests again and got the same results. Here are the detailed steps of what I did so you can try to reproduce it.

Started at BMWLT main page (I was logged in), clicked Gallery
Selected Member's photo gallery, clicked D once there, then selected my gallery
Clicked the upload button, 5th choice from the left on the menu bar just above the image thumbnails
Browsed and selected 5 images totaling 668 KB, clicked submit at bottom of page
15-20 seconds passed while photos uploaded, then got the processing screen. All 5 photos are shown there
Added a short description to all 5 pics, then clicked process at the bottom of the page
After a few seconds got a blank screen with Done in the IE bar at the bottom left. URL was http://www.bmwlt.com/gallery/upload.php
Waited a minute, nothing happened, so removed the upload.php from the URL and returned the the gallery main page and navigated back to my member's photo gallery as in step 2
Only the 1st 3 of the 5 pictures uploaded are in the gallery. A new twist I didn't see last night; the process added "22-" to the beginning of each filename
I then tried a second batch of 5 pictures, totalling 716 KB

Steps 3 - 7 repeated just as they did in the first test
This time I waited 7 minutes at the blank screen to see if something else would occur on this page, nothing did.
I then repeated step 8
This time only the 1st pictiure of the 5 chosen to upload was included in the gallery with the same filename change as above.
I then tried a 3rd batch of 5 pictures totalling 748 KB

Steps 3 - 8 were repeated as in the first test
This time none of the pictures appeared in my member photo gallery
I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you want me to try something else to help figure this out.

David,

Pictures ending with 16, 18, and 19 have errors in them. That's probably the issue. It seems they are corrupted Jpegs.

Those are from the 1st attempt when I identified the problem. These are the ones that originally shoed as duplicates of previously uploaded images, then went into that state later. Pics 22-SJB001 on up are from the 2nd test.

I deleted all of the pics from my gallery to try this again from a clean start. Is there anything that I should be doing differently base don the steps I posted? Also, regarding the blank page after processing pics; is that the expected user experience?

OK, I waited until this morning to run the test after I deleted everything I had posted including the corrupted images (thought I would leave it alone in case there was some automatic server cleanup overnight). I ran the same test as described earlier and I get the same results. Any ideas?
