I am very happy !!! I just got my new (to me) '05 Rt.. It is a great bike .. It has 12.5K on it. It runs great and is mint.

It is a big change from the LT. But, the regular seat does seem a bit high for me. I may end up settling for the lowered seat (anyone have a use done they don't need??)..

It has plenty of power but a little more vibes at the grips then the LT. I am going to put some spongy grips on that should help that a bit.

Can anyone recommend what I should get first?? Engine guard (highway pegs), lowered seat, etc.

Thanks.

I have seen some low seats on e-bay lately, also on the BWMOA site as well. I would check out IBMWR site for parts under oilheads, I have seen R1200RT parts located there as well.

Depends on if you want heated seat or not. I am sure I have seen 3 in the past week.

Good luck.

Congrats on your new bike! I've had my 08 for just a couple weeks now and can't seem to stop riding it. The first thing I did was add wunderlich engine guards to protect the cylinders and so that I can clamp on some highway pegs for my long legs.
I did just order some grip puppies from California Sport Touring. Coming off a Harley Road Glide....I don't even notice any vibration. But the grips are such small diameter compared to my fat harley grips that I've been getting cramps in my throttle hand.

Best Wishes,

Cheryl

Got the lowered seat and backrest.. What a difference.. I am now lower in in the protection envelope more. Put on the spungy grips. Less weight on the bars helps the vibration issue some.

Thinking about the Manic Salamander bar end weights... Heard good things about them.

Very happy with the bike so far.

I got the BMW engine guards, yes poly carbonate but look good, and function as advertised - don't ask :(

I also got the BMW tank bag - I like it very much - made to go on the bike and it is very roomy

Enjoy your bike

If your bike is still under warranty and the panniers are loose, complain to the dealer and he will update the locking mechanism, it was changed after the 05 model.
