I am curious on how Ham operators have mounted antennas, 2m & 70 cm, on their LT, pictures or links to pictures is good. I am interested in APRS & general 2m/70cm repeater connection. I have a Kenwood TH-D7A(G2).
Thanks in advance

I don't have a full set of pics, but this is a Yaesu VX-7R on my bike when I was just experimenting with placement. The antenna cable now runs through a hole at the side of the computer, to the rear of the bike. There I have modified an old radio aerial mount by drilling it out to accept a SO239 connector. I also had to cut one edge off it so it would sit at the right angle. That is fitted with a dual band 2m/70cm whip that I have bent to match the angle of the radio aerial.

I have a 2mm 440 on my bike. The head is on a BMR shelf and I made a plate that fits on the rack on top of the trunk. I belong to MARC and we help with bicycle rides for MS and ADA. I well take some pictures when I can.
I have had this on my bike for 4 years and it works great.

I used to have an Icom 2720 on my LT. Mounted the control head under the BMR shelf with the radio in the right bag. Used the CB mount on the right side with the 5/8th wave larsen bolted to it. Worked great. I took it off, as well as all other 2 meter "CB" radios because now days almost every repeater has tone control. Too much trouble trying to drive the bike and put in the dang code. Try it though, you'll have fun. See ya.

The antenna would be easy if you have a luggage rack.

Andy:
I have a Yaesu VX7R also and have been toying with mounting it. How did you interface it? I have a '03 LT with the factory intercom kit.

Remember to account for the RF levels, especially if you have a passenger close to the antenna.

Here's a good thread (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25181) that covers one radio installation and down in the thread a little ways is another link to the CB antenna base modification. Good luck.

I have got the Starcom Digital intercom which made it quite easy. The only irritation was having to use audio isolation transformers in all the connections. PTT control is my own version of a commercial one. It is a little plastic box with a push switch, cable tied under the left handgrip. I used the Yaesu adapter to 2 line sockets for audio and have taken that into a mini din socket that you can see on the right of the computer. I also have installed a 2.1mm power socket in the same area to provide charging power for the handheld. That tends to give a little alternator whine though. The mount is a Palm windscreen mount, provided as part of the Navman GPS software for Palm handhelds. I have a cable tie around it which is clipped to a lanyard, in case the sucker (on the winglet) should ever let go. If I get the bike out later, I may take some more pics for you.

At the mediocre levels the handheld puts out, I would have no qualms about the passenger sitting ON the aerial !

I made my own antenna mount that matches the CB mount just used a 2X10 inch piece of steal and some bending, use the standard mount with 4 screws and ran it back to the front you can also hook the recieve to the intercom, I got lucky and found a CB antenna with a RGB connector so I could change back in forth from CB to Ham.

I have changed to CB only now though with the BMW mount and run the ham handy on the handle bars with a vox mike because I don't use it that much on the bike. I run a Yasau FT 50 handy.
