I have been having indications of problems in the charging system for a little while. My cruise control won't stay engaged, headlight dims slightly when applying brakes or with the cycle rate of my Gerbing jacket liner at low engine RPM :eek:. Who needs a headlight modulator :rotf:. I also get a tailight fault indication when braking at low RPM. It has been cranking over slower than normal if I don't put it on the battery tender in the garage. It finally wouldn't start after an extended ride around town on Saturday. I got it jump started and rode it home via the freeway and it started when I got home. It seems to be providing some charge at highway cruise conditions or higher RPM but not enough to keep things going in stop and go traffic.
I have been through all the usual suspects; replaced the battery, checked the alternator belt, checked the battery connections and looked for possible short circuits. That pretty much leaves the alternator or the ZFE module. My vote would be the alternator. I am just coming up on 24k.
I bit for the extended warrenty so it looks like I will be getting a good chunk of it back :D.
