On Nov 21, I ordered #2 WS with wings, clear 1 in shorter standard cut. Received first WS with flaw on right side where wing attaches and grease marks on top center edge and bottom center edge. This was returned and received replacement which crossed the returned WS in shipment. Thanks to Roy for getting a replacement on its way before the defective one was back to them in CA. It takes a week via UPS ground. The replacement had a flaw in the left winglet, it was not clear, had "ripples" inside the plastic.

Contacted Roy, the salesman, who said they would repair my original, now back in their shop, ship it back to me and pick up the second flawed WS. I am waiting for the 2nd WS to be picked up and original "repaired" WS to be delivered.

Today is Dec 19 and I still do not have a good replacement WS and am wondering if the next will be good.

Have others had similar experience?

I have read reports of similar experiences with Cee Baileys. Unfortunate too. I can't say enough nice things about my experience with them, or my CB shield. It seems there's no middle ground with them. Either you get a good shield right from the start...or it takes them 3 times to make it right. Sorry to hear of your misfortunes...

I don't understand why they can't just do an proper inspection before shipping. I have a Cee Bailey #2 as well and I love it. It does have a defect with visual distortion, but it is down far in the front and I don't look through that part of the shield so I left it alone. If someone had just held the thing up to the light they would see it.

Doc, I could be wrong, but I think the "visual distortion" that your referring to is unavoidable on the #2 shields as that's where the curvature begins. I have yet to look through a #2 shield that didn't have "the dimple".

I see, thanks for clearing that up.

Thanks for your feedback.

Some aditional thoughts brought about by your replies.

I spoke with Roy at CB about the defect and he said that was normal as you would not look through those areas of the WS. It is poor quality control. If you can make one side of a WS perfectly clear, you should make the other side perfectly clear also.

For the price of the windshield and shipping to FL and return to CA 2 times so far, you could spend more on quality control and get the product right the first time.

Is that too much to ask of a vendor?

I went through a similar issue with my new #2 -2" recently. After my initial rush of excitement with my new light-smoked windshield and the stunning clarity of the windscreen, I noticed that there was a small area of distortion a few inches above the top of the dash. Looking from the side, I noticed a definite "bump" in the area of the distortion. See the attached pics for what I mean. I was miffed, and sent two e-mails to CB with the pics, and offered to even post a video showing the distortion. After the 2nd message they finally called back and said this is normal, that this is the "low pressure" area that helps air to flow to either side on the front of the WS, and increase airflow over the back. Who knew? After realizing the "defect" was actually dead center, this made a lot more sense. Since then, I have never even noticed it, as it's not in my line of vision unless I am looking 5' in front of the scoot. Who knew?

PS the #2 -2" is a bit high for my taste, I'm 5'10" and the top is dead center in my line of vision. #2 -4" would have worked better, ah next time I replace it I will know better...

I did too last year. When asked why I was not happy (in broken english) I finally had to say the windshield sucked. After talking two to three people. I was so pissed I did not want another and bought a euro-windshield through my dealer. I am happy with this and it is clear.

I had a similar experience. Ordered a #2 -2 at Lima this year. It arrived with 2 rippled areas. Called CB and was told that I paid "show price". They agreed to exchange it. New shield had only one rippled area. Very annoying to look through. I kept it, as I keep it in the down position and look over it in the summer. In the cold months, I put the BMW shield back on. Not very good quality IMHO.

I think that at times their reputation & advertisement, & our expectations, cause problems that wouldn't be noticed elsewhere. My first CB #1 -2 came with a slight ripple somewhere in the middle & what I thought were stress marks at the curve. I called, they agreed to ship a replacement & allow me to ship the first one back after I got the replacement.

The replacement arrived with what I perceived as different defects so I re-evaluated the situation. The first shield was worlds better than the stock unit, & wasn't bothering me while riding. I decided to return the replacement & kept the original CB shield. It served me well till I upgraded to the CB #2 -3. Never even looked for problems with this one 'cause it's so much better than stock BMW.

Tom Gallo now sits behind my original CB #1 -2, & he's never said anything bad about it. The trade got me several of his excellently made bags & saved me searching all over creation for things that fit.

In my book Cee Bailey makes a quality product, & if they have the occasional problem they take care of it. A reasonable person can't expect more than that.

I had a similar experience that went on forever. You can view it if you want, it is in the old forum. Go to community on the main screen then to the last section that says BMWLT.net Archive forums. Then do a Cee Bailey search. Mine is titled Poor Quality of Cee Bailey Windshield.

Just a final note to my situation with Cee Bailey. Received the 3rd WS and it is perfect. It is like I expected the first one to be. It is unfortunate that it took 3 tries and 30 days to get it right and to me.
I am going to ride and enjoy.

Good to hear that Cee Bailey resolved the problem. If BMW would build as good a product &/or resolve the inevitable problems with as much professionalism we would all be a lot happier with our machines.

Compared to the stock shield my Cee Bailey #2 -4 iseverything I could expect. As far as the grease marks somewhere on mine I have a couple of small discolorations at the edge. These appear to be marks made during the cutting process when the material got hot. I dont look through them so it doesn't bother me. I could take some sandpaper and probably get rid of them if I wanted. I don't know what the big deal is with the depression in the shield--their literature and description of the product refers to it. Even with it the shield is worlds apart from looking through the stock shield. The CB is a great help in feeling comfortable at slow speeds just from the fact the road right in front of the bike is now not distorted. I can put this shield up and ride looking through it on the highway and be perfectly comfortable--not the stock shield. My CB #2 -4 is also much much quieter (near dead quiet as a matter of fact) than the stock euro shield as far as buffeting noise heard through my Shoei full face helmet.

Yea - and boy did I get slammed for posting it. LOL! heaven forbid a guy share a bad experience with a vendor that Joe like. It was obvious my whole point was at a loss so it was better just to say yep your right, I'm an idiot and installed my screen wrong - CeeBailey is unfaultable.....

OBBob, help me understand something here, as I am looking to make my first non-BMW windshield purchase.

When you say "the top is dead center in my line of vision", do you mean with the shield adjusted up or down? I'm 6'1", ride with the seat in the upper position, and am looking for the right size CB that I can see over, eliminate buffeting, and rain in the face at highway speed.

TIA.
