You asked, so here ya go:
What: R.T.E.
Where: Pizza Shack, Montgomery, TX
When: Saturday May 17th
Time: 1:30 PM
For those that were there last year I don't have to remind you about how good this place was, how great the food and service was, and the Bread Pudding.....oh the Bread Pudding!!! Gina, I am working on another pie, but the owners daughter (the one who baked it last year) just had a baby Saturday, so it is touch and go. We have the big party room this year, with the patio, so the weather will be perfect for sitting inside or out.
So copy and paste to add yourself to the list:

Bread Pudding  let's see....guess I'll have to plan a different route getting there this year....
Sounds good to me.....will there be enough parking...like last time?

Parking...Oh yeah, you can look up "Biker Friendly" in the dictionary and it shows a photo of the Pizza Shack. They always rope off a chunk of the parking lot for us when ever we have a function there. The Harley Group I belong to goes there lots and the owner is a member / rider.

Mmm, mmm, mmm. Was just thinking about that place this week. Well Jerry don't you worry about the PIE. . . I loved the bread pudding and I am sure that little ol' Bruce will put a PIE stop in there somewhere . . . Right, Bruce?

Lawzy, we we've been jabbering about that bread pudding. I'm not even gonna eat this time, just have bread pudding. Jerry, you best tell them folks they better have plenty... and I MEAN PLENTY... of bread pudding laying around. I'd sure hate for Gina not to get any.

Hmmmmm....That might explain why people were looking for the place on the wrong side of the road last year. The GPS folks were all looking north and it sits on the south-east corner of FM 105 and FM 149. Okay, so I owe you an apology...would you settle for a piece of bread pudding instead? ;) :rotf:
So are you gonna make it....or I guess the question on everybody's mind is, "Is Toad gonna make it?" :D

Gina,
I noticed you signed in as the "Pie" Princess. I think for this RTE you were officially redubbed the "Puddin" Princess weren't you? :p
Grif,
Not to worry. I already told them to have a few extra on hand for this crew and that several would probably forgo the meal and go straight to the puddin. ;)

Hmmmmmmm..... :D Well try to get away for this one, cause you will love the food, but don't strain things with the son cause there will be others. This location is great and we will have a huge turn out. This is probably going to be one of the better ones, cause Bones just said he can't make it. :histerica
Bones, you got a whole month to catch something and call in sick. You KNOW you want to. ;) If not, send Rhonda anyway than we can have the best of both. :D

Hey, Dan. I gotta put a 'maybe' on myself and ole Toad.  This morning, after *$$ with Monte and Dave Moore, Monte and I changed fluids in ole Toad. Engine oil went smoothe --- rear drive, not so much!!!
Soon as I took the drain plug out, I heard a 'katink' as a small bit of sumpthin' hit the container. Couldn't see it, cuz the rest of the fluid poured out and submerged the thang. Finished the drain and felt around inside the black fluid and came up with a 'humped' bit of metal that turned out to be a piece of the ball retainer - about 3/8ths" long. Funny thang - it had a flattened 'scuff' on top of the hump, like it had been rubbing on sumpthin' for awhile, or sumpthin' rubbed on it! The magnet had nuttin' butt smoodge on it, and didn't grab the retainer piece (which does react to a magnet - I checked)? Can't figger that out, unless the smoodge wuz thick enough to be a barrier --- even tho smoodge is somewhat magnitized?! Beats me!!
Anyway, first thought wuz that it wuz a remnant from an earlier bearing failure, butt that wuz in 2003, and plenty of fluid changes ago. Surely would have been found by the mechanic who replaced the bearing then. And surely would have been eliminated during one of the following fluid changes.
So - Hank has a slot for me next Friday and if he can order, and get the replacement bearing and seal in soon, he might work ole Toad in the schedule and we'll be back on the road before the RTE??? I'll letcha know.
BTW - 120K on ole Toad now, and 73K at the earlier bearing failure.
Now back to the "Bread Pudding anyone" subject!!!

Okay,
Bread Pudding Day is only one week from today. The time is 1:30 and the location is:
873 Eva Street, Montgomery, TX (South-east corner of FM 105 and Fm 149 next to the grocery store).
This is the current list and I have to call them Tuesday to give them a number so add your name to this quickly. I know there are a lot of you on the fence, but if you haven't tried their bread pudding (not to mention their food) I promise you it is worth the trip.
So copy and past this then add your name if you are joining the most fun group of people ever to share a meal:
Lone-Wuff & Ann (Magnolia, TX)
Stevie & Sammie (Austin)
Pie Princess and Mr. Pie (Garland, TX)
grifness de scoot (Twilight Zone, TX)

Hey, Gina. Me and ole Toad are still a maybe, unless ole Blue truck gits fixed so we can haul ole Toad to Hank for a leetle OR work. Keepin' positive thoughts, so it oughta work out.
Reason for the slight topic hi-jack - to ax how Mr. Pie Princess is doing? Back to full time work? Able to run the '55 Delray thru it's paces? And more importantly - able to haul butt(s) to Montgomery on the scoot?
Just thinkin' about him, and hadn't heard anythang lately. Hope to see y'all at the Pizza Shack, where I guess we should eat dessert first!!!!! :p ;)

Guys, I may have to bail on the Montgomery Pie run Saturday. I slipped through Hico yesterday coming back through Dallas and noticed that they are having a Steak grilling competition on the 17th............As much of a fan as I am of Pie, (and bread pudding when well done).....I think the T-bone competition gets my vote....and Pie of course is available right there at the Koffee Kup.
Here is the link for the steak cookoff:

Ok, folks. unfortunately I will have to bail out from RTE on Saturday because instead of having bread pudding with you folks I will have sadly lay my mother in law to rest.
Her health declined must faster than anybody could have anticipated and so my wife doesn't get a very nice b-day present this year. Yes, we are literally laying her mother to rest on Lanette's B-day. Kind of sucks.
We DO hope to see you folks next month though.

Andy, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife. My favorite grandmother passed away on my birthday several years ago and instead of looking at it in a sad way I choose to think about it like this - God gave me the greatest birthday present by allowing her to move on to a better place on my birthday - nothing can compare to that, especially when bad health and suffering is involved. Maybe your wife will one day be able to see that as well. Thinking of you - PiePrincess and Mr. Pie

Hey Nathan,
Just ask the Puddin...I mean Pie Princess. I promised to buy her a pie last time if she didn't like the Bread Pudding...I am talking about the PIE Princess mind you. Besides, if you don't love the Bread Pudding, there is a planned stop or four along the way home for pie. ;)
The food is great too, so don't let the name of the place fool you.
That reminds me Pie Princess, since John's daughter just had a baby and they were unsure about her baking a pie, I am not going to press for it this time. K?

Well, the best bread pudding I've ever had is made by a dear friend that had his own restaurant years ago. He still brings us a BIG resturant size tray every Christmas, and we eat until we are sick. If this place makes bread pudding half as good as him it'll be worth the ride! Of course, any day spent on the back of a bike makes life worth living- the bread pudding (and pie) sure help though :)

Nathan,
I used to go to N'awlins to get what I thought was the best Bread Pudding. Then I met John Simmons, the owner of the Pizza Shack, and he told me about his ricipe winning some national award in NYC and again in Kansas City a year later. My wife and I went to his restaurant and found out why. Now I don't have to visit the "Chocolate City" anymore...at least as long as Nagin is the Mayor anyway...but I digress :histerica
I think you will find this Bread Pudding to be great and you can just consider it Christmas in May. ;) You're not going to get a whole tray full though...although they do sell the entire pan, so.....

He also is good at picking places to eat. Food was good, but the bread pudding was awesome. Been on a diet and haven't had dessert in a year, except for Gelato in Milan.
Mark and I took one for the team. After leaving Montgomery we headed to Moss Hill, had some pie and made tracks for home. Good pie. Meant to get a picture, but by the time the camera warmed up,it was gone. Maybe next time.

Look forward to seeing EVERYONE at the next RTE. Hope the North of Huntsville gang made it safely/finally :D The Mufallatta's(sp)were great and the Bread pudding was out of this world! I forgot about the Strawberry pie I brought for PP and had to toss it when I got home  Pie abuse...please nobody turn me in

Did you have the banana split pie?
yes, and Mark had the chocolate. Walking in we saw the cook making pies. Dick's Dolly Parton pies got competition.

OK, those of us who couldn't make it still want to see pictures of the bikes, the
place and the people to live out our meager lives through your adventures....

Hey Dan,
So that I don't get my taste buds all set for it, I can't see any in the photos, but is their chocolate on the banana split pie? It looks sooooooo good, but I can't imagine it not having chocolate, but if it doesn't I am ALL over it!!! ;)
Oh yeah, Gina was right last year when she said that was the best coconut cream pie she had ever tasted. Ann and I just had a piece and it is out of this world. David throws Pie Princess's pie out and Ann and I eat the other. That girl needs to pick her friends better instead of those that Karma gets even with.
Dan, you sure about the number, cause I think there were ten people at our table and your table had more than ours?

It was great to meet everyone. I look forward to the next one. :thumb:
I just slabbed it down I-45 through Houston to get home. I made it back in time to mow the yard. :brick:

No chocolate, bottom layer kinda cheesecake like, then bananas, cherry filling, whipped cream. I try to evaluate better tomorrow.
Get Kathy to give me the layering.
There were 8 at my table. I thought 8 at yours too.

head count: two tables four on each side
2 X 2 X 4 = 16

Had a blast. Mark Murphy from Sugar Land made his first RTE. There were a total of 16 Jerry. Jerry can't count, use tools, but is good with a calculator.

Hey Jay,
With this group you don't wait for an invite, you just assume you are and go. ;)
Did anyone see Grif's name in the obituaries today?

Well gang we were bummed to miss the RTE but ya know what . . . a friend ALWAYS comes first. You haven't lived until you have sat for 3 plus hours in a po-dunk town trying to get a darn bike towed or just catch a ride 12 miles up for a $6.00 valve stem knowing all the while that you are a mere 1 to 1 1/2 hours from your destination. The only great thing was we had stopped for gas when Mr. Pie noticed that Bruce's tire was low because I would hate to think what could have happened if the stem had gone while buzzing down the road at a high rate of speed. The man upstairs was watching over us and I guess better to be stranded in a po-dunk town gas station than on the side of the road. Thanks to all who devoured my coconut creme pie and David I will buy you another slice of strawberry pie on our next Hico run so you don't have guilt. You know I think you are a sweetheart for even bringing me a slice. We were there in spirit and made it back safely. We will be seeing you on June 21st for Banana Split Pie. If we get stranded again I am calling one of you to come pick me up . . . the guys can fend for themselves (ha ha). Missed you all.
