2008 Spring Training Camp For Riders (http://davedragon.rilysi.com/2008/04/spring-training-camp-for-riders.html)

Next Tuesday I roll north out of FlatLand for Higher roads in the Great Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee.

I'll leave the Casa around 07:00am and arrive at the Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge (http://www.ironhorsenc.com/) in Stecoah North Carolina between 3:00 and 4:00pm.

This is the 4th annual STC at the Iron Horse Lodge and were looking forward to yet another great turn-out for the event.

This year I will be leading some off-road/fire road rides on the Gravel-hala, the fire road equivalent of the Cherohala Skyway (http://www.cherohala.org/) that runs roughly parallel to the Cherohala with all of the elevation changes and scenic beauty of the Smokey Mountains without the cager traffic.

I'll also be conducting a tech session on the use of the GS-911 Emergency Tool (http://davedragon.rilysi.com/2007/05/review-gs-911-emergency-tool.html) from Hex (http://www.hex.co.za/gs911/index.html) in South Africa.

We're expecting another sell-out crowd at the Iron Horse for STC so if your
coming, bring your camping gear!

John and Charlene, the owner/operators of the Iron Horse are great hosts and have created a wonderful Motorcycle Lodge that sports all the iminities one comes to expect from such establishments.

A warm welcoming atmosphere coupled with outstanding food and a great Smokey Mountain location only further reinforce the Southern Hospitality and graciousness you'll be immersed in while a guest at the Iron Horse Motorcycle Resort.

We have riders coming in from all over the country for this event where an amazing Motorcycle Ride is just minutes away in any direction and the premier Motorcycle Road in America, Deals Gap (http://www.dealsgap.com/), is just down the road.

We're looking forward to another great event so join us if you can. You won't regret the experience.

You gonna lead anything on the hard pack this year Dave? Connie wants to know. I'll lead a Cherohala Skyway/Dragon Loop on Friday provided the court releases me from my obligations.

Now what was the name of the place to eat on the other side of Cherohala in Tellico Plains?

See everyone next week.

P.S. Dave are you bringing your FRS/GMRS radio and what channel shall we use?

Judy and I, and probably Chris (hybridcage), will be arriving at the Ironhorse Saturday right at 10:30AM to say hi and shoot the breeze with anyone in camp. Also may head out on a ride if everyone hasn't left for the day already.

What time do you guys usually head out from base?

See you Saturday.

Steve, are you talking about that over-priced Bistro (Cardin's Landing) or the more affordable restaurant called the Tellulah (???) Cafe behind Hardee's in Tellico?

John... should be folks Saturday morning at Ironhorse, some tech session going on...

Steve and Brett, others.. the Telico Cafe, behind Hardees is good, the cafe in the town square is good, Tellico Outfitters in downtown Tellico Plains is giving us door prizes and discount coupons if you drop in.....for your gear/clothing needs.

The BBQ place on the river edge has lost his lease... so he closed....

The Carry out place on the River has added more covered Pavalions.

Always a box lunch option from Charlene's staff for you off roading folks...

For lunch the Diner at Steacoah Valley (entrance to Lower Steacoah road)

Of course, Deals Gap has cafe now and down 129 from Deal's Gap is the lodge as well.

Hey Bro', if they are open YOU can buy lunch! :p

Ever since (probably in the last 7 years) they changed their "style", I have shyed away from that place.

Tellico Plains is not a Bistro kind of town, you can take the man out of the country but you can't take the country out of the man!

I was in the area from March 30-April 2 and noticed on Hwy. 143 between the Cherohala and Robbinsvile there are about 12 six-foot wide perpendicular road cuts. They are spaced about every half mile or so. They cut all of the way across the road and are loose gravel. Also, where the car tires run, the gravel was developing pot holes. The safest path across was in the center of your lane.
Hope they have repaired these by now, but I doubt it.
