About once a year I get the bug for a new bike so I was looking at the ownership costs of my '99 LT (purchased used for under $10K) which now has 50,000 miles on it (41,000 are mine).

Anyway, even with pre-emptive replacement of the rear bearing and slave cylinder by the dealer, and doing the 12k Maintenance myself, I'm guessing maintenance cost is about $100 / month.

Does anyone else have a handle on that figure?

Anyway, with the low purchase price and pretty reasonable ownership / maintenance costs, I can't justify buying anything new. Darn it!!!!

My fall back plan is to pay this girl off this year, keep her another 100,000 miles and get serious looking at the Ural sidecars to add to the stable for a change of pace. (Quick someone - save me from myself!)

Not so fast!
My Jap bikes cost me .15-.18 per mile to drive.
My BMW is over .40 per mile
My 2007 Honda Accord is .53
Take your initial cost less value today divide by miles driven, this is the most expensive item, then multiply by 2 for all other costs (gas, maintenance, tags, inspections, insurance, etc).
Still cheaper than a car/truck. But "Luxury Touring" Items are expensive.
I had a 99 Vette that was costing me $1.25+ per mile.
Now multiply the $/mi. cost times your total miles and it gets scary!

Maybe your total cost averaged $100 month?
