Let me start by saying that I have been treated well by Lonestar BMW in Austin. Everyone associated with the dealership really seems to care about their work and making the customer happy.

My concern is the length of time needed to schedule repairs and service. When I purchased my LT 2 years ago, it took 10 days to 2 weeks to get an appointment for service or repairs. A year ago I scheduled the annual service and the wait at that time was 4 weeks. This week I tried to put the bike on the center stand and discovered that the weld on the cross bar had broken on the left side. I contacted Lonestar and was told that January 14th was the first available appointment for them to look at the bike (this was on December 13th). Obviously I can use the side stand in the mean time.

I can forsee situations where I could be without the bike for 5-6 weeks at a time if they have to order parts and the bike is truely broken.

I have been doing more of the routine maintenance myself and purchased the video's from Paul S. which are quite helpful. Unfortunately, things like servicing the brake system and true repairs require dealer intervention.

I was wondering if my experience is common and how others are handling this situation.

Thanks

I am New to the BMW K1200LT and Lonestar BMW...I have the same issue yesterday when I want to get MY BIKE in for the Radar Detector wired into my NEW 2006 LT. I was told they where booked up through Jan 2006. It must be nice to have all the $$ coming in during the winter...

Dose any body have the wiring diagram they could send or any hints on wiring the Radar Dector to my bike...I purchased a new esort 8500 that has the audio feed so I can wire it into the intercomp system...?

The dealer told me two to three hours for de-panelling and wiring the radar detector. I have not purchased a manual and they also told me the manual was $130.00....I could use some help on the manual also?? The do not stock the manual..I assume these bikes do not require much work??

I purchased my manuals from Motobins (http://www.motobins.co.uk/), very reasonable prices. I'm a mechanic by trade and find the service manual and wiring diagram manuals invaluable tools. The Wiring Diagram Manual is a bit of a trick to use since it is in Greman and you use the translation page to figure out what you are after (an online language translator is also very helpful).

Merry Christmas Channing. I just tried the link in the post and it didn't work for me, so I
Google'd Motobins and the first link is to their site. Interestingly enough it is the same url as given in the post, but it works.

Yup, http://www.motobins.co.uk/ is the website and the ")" tagged along for the ride which made it a bad link. Looks like I ordered the wiring diagram manual from the BMW shop, although I can't seem to find the recipt (which seems strange since I don't normally throw anything away!).

The PN for the Wiring Diagram Manual is 04 01 99 7 650 982, I don't know if this will cover the '05 and newer but does work with '99-'03. It's in German and comes with a translation page but it's also helpful to use an online translator until you get used to it. Hope this helps.

The simple response is YES. Now to their credit, I've seen them push urgent matters ahead in the calendar so they can get riders underway for their trips.

The other option is to consider using the San Antonio dealer or the Metroplex dealers. It is a quick ride to these locations and you could call ahead so they'd have the part ready for when you show up.
