After some miserably cold and wet weather, the forecast is finally for a weekend in the 70’s. Anyone interested in a ride? A GT check point or chowder perhaps. Debbie is out of town through the weekend so I am a free bird and the road is calling. Now if I could just find my Lynyrd Skynyrd CD…

Dan,
Just like everybody else here in the NW, I will not know until late in the week. Sounds good though.

Hey how about that, my wife is down in AZ taking care of her mom and won't be back until a week from today. I sure would be up for a ride this weekend, but only a day ride and home same day. Sure would like to take longer but when she's gone I'm the pet sitter and so on.
Where are ya thinking of going? Sure would be good to see you and all the guys down south.

Well, Marilyn is working Saturday, so I guess I may be another one of those "Free Birds" Dan.
I should see if Art is over the crud yet and what sort of plans he has also.
Stay tuned to this channel for further details!

I'm going to be out of town and without computer service until Friday afternoon. I'll check the post then and see where you guys are headed. I'd like to meet you all if possible.

Dang it anyway!!!! Marcia and I had volunteered to attending a paint party at her aunts house on the 12th. I was thinking I could be ill that day instead but she caught me talking to John about it:) Just kidding about that.
You all have a great time.

Unfortunately I'll be enjoying the "charms" of the Middle East by the weekend, so I'll have to settle for living this trip vicariously. Bring back pictures and have a safe trip! :)

Bummer, guys. Michele and I are in Port Angeles for a sea kayak symposium and while the report of decent weather is welcome here as well, I'd love to be riding with you to Tokeland. BTW Brian, Cape Flattery was all you described it to be.
Ride safe and eat well. Watch out for wild "Tigers".

Denny,
The cape is pretty nice isn't it. That's a wild section of coast. On a calm day it would be superb sea kayaking

Hey Brian -
It is an outstanding area. Did you ride out on Hwy 112 or Hwy 113 and then 112? The weather gods were good to us for the hiike out to the point. It would have been better with a green chili burrito under the belt!
Safe ride tomorrow.

Denny, you will be sorely missed my friend! But Brian and Clayton are gonna make it!
Maybe I'll find a DQ somewhere along the way to stop off at and have a Blizzard in your honor Denny!

Ernie,
We are going to slab it up to WA6 over to Raymond and WA105 to Tokeland. We will probably take 101 down the coast on the way back. Where we cut back east will depend on how much time we have. Hope to see you guys!

My feelings as well Dan! As a couple of FYI's, I was not trying to get rid of you and Eric in Ranier yesterday, just wanted to give you guys the option of not having to go through the Portland area to get home! The other item is that I did not even stop at the DQ in Scapoose! I just scooted right by in order to get home sooner and give my old wrist a break.
I did stop at a DQ today though while riding around locally and had a Blizzard in Denny's honor!

I can always make room for DQ.

Yeah, I saw Eric! But they weren't watching their rear views, they were bookin! Maybe on a future ride though. Especially if Denny is along. We may be in the majority then!

I appreciate you thinking about me, John. We do have to be careful if we pass too many DQ's - they'll pull our quantity discount! So, the Tiger purred?!!?

She purred like a kitten Denny till I opened her up! Then she roared like the Tiger she is!
I did have some anxious moments when I found myself flipping to reserve on the gas at less than 150 miles though! I had previously ridden her to at least 160 and 175 or so before my Low Fuel Light even came on (doesn't have a gauge), and then I had not even needed to flip to reserve before filling her back up. And in both of those previous cases I ended up adding about 5 Gal, so I knew that my Reserve was about 1 Gal.
On this trip I actually flipped to Reserve twice and never even got a Low fuel Light! When I did fill up on this ride I was only able to put about 4 Gal in her, and the tank is a 6.4 Gal tank, so I had plenty of range remaining, but did not know that until after filling up.
I am guessing that there must be something that is preventing the Normal pickup tube from draining as low as it normally would. The engine did actually start to lose power, and as soon as I flipped to Reserve she picked right up!
I will take this tank down and then remove the Petcock to inspect the tube screens. Weird, but she still runs great as long as I keep the fuel flowing.
Oh yeah, I checked the mileage I got on this ride after I got back and it was probably about the best I have gotten yet! So, we'll see what develops.
Whew!

We had a great ride with you guys. We wished we could have stayed together on the way home for more pictures of John and his antics. ;) The next time I want to stay with the group and have a Blizzard at the DQ.:D
We tried to make it to BMWWO Tigard, but because of traffic we missed their open house. However the ride over the coast range was super and the whole day was fun. I had trouble with the cruize control and fixed it when I got home. Damn throttle cable adjustment issue. :(
I promised to put together some pictures of the trip and since I worked such long and weird hours this week I'm just now getting to look at them. In looking at a couple of them I now know why the phrase used to describe the men in Alaska goes something like: The odds are good in Alaska, but the goods are ODD!

Good shots. Sorry I missed the fun. Everyone looks really comfortable except that guy that is stretching. He must not be riding a BMW:)
AlaskaFish
Apr 22nd, 2008, 7:41 pm
Good catch Art! And you are correct: He was not riding a BMW! He was riding a Tiger and having a ball, but it was not the lap of luxury that we are used to.
Maybe that explains the same shifty character standing in front of the tanning/massage parlor in the last shot looking like he just got ambushed: Too long hanging onto the handlebars without the good old cruise control can make a man want a little massage!
It was a great ride though. Ya shoulda been there!

Uh, not the type that would require any "fanny tanning" Denny!! Olympia Air Glide mesh at the time. I have about three different pair that I choose from, depending on the length of the ride and the Wx.
But none of them are "fanny tanners"!
