Went for a lovely ride on the weekend to the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. Took the new video camera and let the "little lady" shoot away while riding.
Here's (ftp://ftp.al.com.au/private/dfb/cws127/katoomba_2008_svcd.mpg) the result (big file, 7 mins, so click/save/download it if you want to watch... 124mb... can't seem to post the smaller 28mb .wmv one on the site).
Need to work out a stabilising system to improve the camera work and a few mount positions, but it will get there. This is an svcd (576x480 16x9) resize from a 720p project (original media AVCHD 1920x1080 50i)
Something I've wanted to start doing for a long time. Working in the movie industry (my day job, technical supervisor, definately not a "creative"...) can be cool, but it's so nice to do my own little projects and have some real fun at the same time.
Oh, and the music... Ozark Mtn Daredevils... an old favourite.. (for my personal pleasure only, of course)

Enjoyed your movie (loved the soundtrack!), that's certainly a beautiful country you live in. We are just beginning to thaw out from winter's grip here in the Midwest US, can't wait to be putting some twisty miles on the LT.
Thanks for sharing! (try the H.264 codec next time, it's a much smaller file)

Taking your suggestion Kevin, here's another couple of little clips from a ride last weekend... gotta work on a stabiliser system for the camera though!

I hate rendering stuff at lo-res, since all the stuff I do for motion picture film work is normally 2k or greater... but we just aren't anywhere near there for public bandwidth yet. This originates at 1080i (Panasonic SD5).

Chris:
Very professional production. Your work is much better than much of the You Tube posts I've seen in the States.
Nice work!

Thanks J. Its' hardly "professional" in camera work, or editing... but it helps to pick up a few tricks from the creative "Pro's" that I do work with to polish things... I'm more a background technical guy... just having some fun. Hopefully they'll get better. I just need to get out and ride more :D

Chris,
I enjoyed your video clips -- nicely done. What did you mount your camera to? I thought your wife was holding it until she leaned forward and was included in the video. I'm checking out any ideas for my upcoming trip to Alaska (leaving early July).
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve

Nothing fancy, just tied a tripod to bike, as explained above. Occy strap and gaffer tape... :rotf:
There's a few fancy recording devices you can buy, but this is a simple way to use your existing kit.
One of the other guys has posted pics of a more elaborate setup (was it Dave Dragon?) but I just copied BarryLT's (another Aussie rider) method for simplicity.
Have a great trip!

Thanks for the great clips! Mine aren't even close yet! Don't know about riding on the wrong side of the road tho... :D

Did a little run through Sydney's Royal National Park on Sunday (as many other bikes and cars do). The Park is about 40km or so south of the city centre, and the main road runs down to the coast at Stanwell Park, where hang-glider pilots launch themselves if the conditions are right. Great surf beaches too.
The drive is about 30 minutes each way, depending on the traffic, and if you're lucky enough you can get a pretty free run. There's enough overtaking places to get you past traffic except in the most twisty bits.
Here's (http://s128.photobucket.com/albums/p196/cws127/?action=view¤t=RoyalNationalPark.flv) a bit of the run south, and then a snippet (http://s128.photobucket.com/albums/p196/cws127/?action=view¤t=peg_scrape.flv) of the run back where the twisties weren't backed up with cars too badly.
Camera is mounted on the right tip-wing, and gives a good view of the front suspension working to give that smooth ride. ;)

Nice one Chris. :bmw: Brings back memories of when Andrew and I rode there on hired bikes. Good action on the suspension. I don't remember, is that front shock OEM or did you change it to W or O ? Cheers

OEM shock, 1-up (no riding like that with Kerry on the back....) ;)
Hope the "holiday" is going well, Hilton! 3 months & counting for us to Europe...

Only 3 months, that will zip by in no time. Time here has really flown too. Couple more weeks, then back to Heidelberg to resume our "work". ( now classify ourselves as " Travel Consultants " ) Still hoping to see you guys in FRA. Keep those videos coming.
