I thought I might gain some power, have a cooler transmission and left saddle bag, a better exhaust sound, and save some weight on my 2007 R1200RT. We replaced everything from the cylinders rearward with Remus parts.
The headers came in two pieces and reached from the cylinders back to just past the transmission. With no cat converter, the heater for the transmission became history. The intermediate piece then continued to the left to the carbon fiber exhaust can. That can is cool to the touch even right after a dyno run, so the left bag and it's contents are not getting cooked while on the road. The total weight savings were about 7.5 pounds.
The Remus carbon fiber can can be looked through like a telescope, so there appears to be not a lot of back pressure generating stuff in it.
However, the engine crash bars from Wunderlich #8160735 would NOT fit around the new exhaust headers.
There were no other modifications to the stock engine including the air filter. So you ask, what was the gain at the rear wheel on the Dyno? We got about a 5% gain in horsepower ( from 102.16 to 107.25 HP) and about a 4.7% gain in torque (from 78.73 to 82.46 ft pounds).
What did this exercise cost? The list prices on the three Remus parts totaled $1,234 plus tax and shipping. A couple of new exhaust gaskets at $9 each and we add in labor and two dyno runs for a discounted total of about $1,650.
The bike exhaust sounds more throaty and the bike feels quicker with better engine response.
