How about Long beach? Me don't know about no chowder in Longview. Unless your talking about going to Oregon again. I'll be a little iffy on this one. I have a poker game on Sat night. They usually do not end until 3 or 4am. I will keep my options open for right now.

Clayton,
Three of the guys bailed out on the game so we cancelled it. So, How about an Olympic peninsular loop with some fresh halibut for lunch? Crabcakes? Anyone else ready for a ride tomorrow? I have 9 tires in my garage and I need to start burning them up to make room for other stuff.

Ken,
I kinda miss not having you as a local anymore. You instigated a lot of rides. How about Red River? Just a short trip for you. You going to Florida?

Yep, heading to Florida, to meet some folks for dinner. Then back home the next day. I wonder if they have good chowder out that way? :D

You all missed a great ride today, Clayton and I rode out to Neah bay then out to the cape. We hiked the last bit out to the ocean. I'll post a few pics later. We stopped in Sekiu for lunch. I had a small Chowder, No way near a Doogers. Then had a pretty darn good halibut sandwich. We found some nice twisties and lots of great scenery. I saw about a dozen bald eagles. Clayton did not see as many. Who knows, Maybe he was watching the road?

So Ken,
Are you doing a 50CC out and/or back to Jacksonville?

Yep, 50CC on the way out, then if all goes well grab a few east coast National Park stamps and get back home in time for an SS5K. That's the grand plan, if all the stars and planets align. :)

Great photos, Brian. Makes me want to get right up there and see in first person. Tks.

Ken,
Excellent!
May the weather and traffic gods bless you on your ride as they are critical elements for the CC or CCC, especially if sleep is desireable. This time of the year is always a crap shoot.
Hopefully you will have time to actually go into the racetrack at Daytona and check it and the MC races out. It is a RUSH!
When do you leave? I will be reliving my ride vicariously with you and will be monitoring the weather. This will be a good test of all the comfort mods that you have done to the GT. Will look forward to your report when you get back.
Keep the rubber side up,

Well, cancel that plan.
I went to pick up my bike from the dealer after the air box upgrade, and they couldn't get the idle sorted. Turns out there was a problem with the throttle cables, which they can't get in until tomorrow. So no ride this week for me.
I'll most likely just reschedule for a couple of weeks out, depending on weather.
My fault for bringing the bike in so close to a big trip, but I wanted to get some warranty work done before I hit 36K miles. Seeing as I'm at 35,868 miles, I didn't have a whole lot of room to work with. Oh well, better they get it fixed right than it fail on me in some random location, or when fighting rush hour traffic in some nameless state. And it means they're going to tear into my clutch under warranty and see if they can sort out that obnoxious squealing sound.
Stay tuned for further updates.

Ken,
Sorry to hear of the disappointment with the change in plans, but sounds like it might be for the best. What software did they install with the airbox? My Service Mgr said that 11.0 is due out next week so I am waiting to do the new airbox till then.
Bryan, did they ever get yours sorted out?

Jeff,
I had the airbox changed out. It does run better but not as good as I had hoped. Originally they did not reprogram the computer. They said it was not necessary with the new airbox. So I took it back for the "latest" reprogam. It still idles a bit to low sometimes. They said that they can't force the computer to take the program. It automatically takes the program if needed. They will not tell me if it took or not and claim there is no such thing as 10.0, 7.0, or even 11.0. Just a part number for the program. I think them telling me this is a bunch of crap. I paid 25k for the bike and farkles, I expect it to run like 25k Not like a 16k Kawasaki.

Brian,
As you suggested, it is hard to believe what they are telling you. My service manager here in Portland is pro-active. He is the one that told me about the service bulletin on the 11.0 program and he suggested that I wait till next week to bring my bike in, as thats when they should be receiving it. It sounds like "your guy should talk to my guy"!
I will keep you posted on the progress and the performance. Did your airbox upgrade positively impact the hesitation issue?

Ken,
From just now looking at the national weather radar, you might be glad that you ended up postponing. It was this time of the year when Coni, David, and I got caught in East Texas by the big rain (red on the radar map for 400 miles). It looks like they have some of that going on now from there east. Probably right where you would be!
April ended up being a much better weather time.

What software did they install with the airbox?I hadn't heard of 11.0. Figures. Oh well, my choice was to get the upgrade done now, or wait and most likely pay for it myself later. I have 150 miles of factory warranty left (not bad for 11 months :)) and was about to head out on a 5K+ mile trip. The good news is that they're also gonna look into my clutch noise/judder next week, also under warranty. The local dealer isn't as familiar with the clutch issues as the airbox, but he got authorization to tear into it and see what's up. So overall it's gonna be better for the bike, but I'm still bummed.
As for software versions, my understanding is that each control unit on each bike (BMS-KP, ZFE, ABS, etc.) has its own software revision with its own cryptic number. The 10.1 or 11.0 that is referred to is the version of the BMW Disk that contains all the latest software for the ModiTec system. So the dealer hooks up the bike to the ModiTec and inserts the latest software disk, and the system figures out which software code goes where. I've heard several cases of the new software not "taking" at first, and even one or two where they had to install a whole new BMS-KP module with the software preloaded at the factory.
I had asked at a previous service what version of software was on my GT, and all they said was that it said that it didn't need upgrading (even though I knew there were more recent software versions out). So I can see how a mechanic might see it that way, whereas those of us with computer experience always expect the latest and greatest. :)
I also understand that the GS-911 tool can read out the software versions of the individual controllers, but obviously can't tell which CD version they came from. I'd like to see who all has access to a GS-911 and maybe start a table of info from various bikes, containing build date, CD version if known, individual controller versions, etc.
So I don't know what "version" they installed, but they did say that it took fine yesterday. I'll try to find out when I pick the bike up. As for 11.0, maybe I'll talk to Tigard the next time I'm up that way. It sure would be great if a copy of the Service Bulletin appeared somewhere. ;)

Yeah, it looks like pretty crazy wind across LA and heavy rain all across FL, whereas it's 70 and gorgeous all week here. I'm still bummed, though. :(
My choice now is to go in another two weeks, or postpone slightly longer and try and make a 4 Corners out of it. How early do y'all think I can make it up into Maine? :D
