Summed up in one word. WOW!!! I took delivery of my 05 LT this morning. All my preride worries and concerns are now a thing of the past. Yes, I was nervous about everything from what I had read about braking, dropping it, slow handling. Funny thing. When driving down to exit the dealer parking lot, I said to myself these handle bars sure do shake a lot and realized it wasnt the bars but my hands and arms shaking from being nervous. Soon as I realized that I settled down. Jumped on 285 in Atlanta. Missed my exit by 10 miles, went back the other direction and traveled up 400 for 70 miles in to the N. Ga. mountains and 30 miles further to my cabin which I had to go down a gravel drive with a steep hill. Parked. My wife said I had a smile from ear to ear!

The 1200LT is fantastic. No problems at lights or in traffic. No top heavy problems. Handled fantastic in slow turns. The ride is smooth. I will say I am glad I had the CLC to learn on.
In my opinion the LT drives much easier and handles much better. I just wish
there had been more time to ride today. The bike handles twisties and curves with ease. The electric wind shield is fantastic. Thanks to all that have posted their answers to my questions. This forum has been and will continue to be fantastic. Now I cannot wait until tomorrows ride. 61 degrees and sunny!!
Special thanks Deacon.

I must say after owning 12 street bikes of all different types, I agree with Hifiman 100%! :bmw:

I think that the one thing we all have in common is the smile during and at the end of the ride. The bike just leaves you feeling so good. Just enjoy riding so much that I tend to put off washing it for riding.... One of these days I'm going to wash it again! Course the rain tends to wash away the big bugs and stuff....

Hopefully sometime in the next month I will get to ride mine. It has been sitting the garage for the last few weeks since I picked it up.

Had another snow storm two days ago, and today it is a nice balmy 36 degrees. Looks like more snow Tuesday.

Congrats on the new ride!!

One of the distortions brought on by this forum is that virtually EVERY problem that a perosn have will be brought up, since there's a wealth of information here, as well as broad experience. And of course no one logs on every time they just ride and everything is fine to report that. The result is that the problems appear much magnified and seem to dominate people's experiences.

That's obviously not so or this forum would be bothing but one giant "LT For Sale" listing.

Meanwhile, enjoy it!

Congrats on the new ride. Once you start figuring out that all other things in life have no meaning, you can start a 12 step process... By why would you want to?

I was the same when I had one on loan from the dealer. I would finish work at 1am after ten hours of driving a bus and instead of riding 15 miles home it took me 110miles and I arrived home with that feeling you used to get when you first started riding.

And it keeps getting better. After 93000 its still the most fun you can have on 2 wheels. Enjoy. Welcome.

Did you get the blue one from BMW Atl (had arm rests and low mileage). I had my eye on that one - went in to test drive it this Saturday, and it was gone!

I bought the Light Yellow Metallic (Gold) 05 LT at Blue Moon Cycle in Norcross. Just got home from trailering it from Ga. to Va. Beach. The 4 point tie down worked great.

Glad to hear you like the machine, I love mine and I've owned several. But with regard to top heaviness and slow speed handling, remember the expression that a whore is easy to meet. Spend a few hours in a parking lot and practice your tight turns before you get over confident in traffic.

One other thing I forgot, Checkout the video on this site on how to pick up the beast when you drop it. Its not a question of if. I think everyone who owns an LT has dropped it at least once. It will happen when you least expect it at very slow speed or stopped.

Just a word to the wise.

Two weeks after I picked my LT up I rode it down to Ozark AR with a bunch of R1150R riders through the hills. They were so surprised at how well the LT kept up. And I learned just what it was capable of.

Thanks. That is what I was out doing today. The LT handles so much better than the CLC I use to drive. Never can get enough practice. I practiced on the CLC to a point that I could turn on a dime at slow speeds. The CLC was 100 lbs lighter but to me the LT seems much easier to handle at slow speeds. (So Far). Today I practiced coming to almost a dead stop and then turning sharply at a crawl without the feet going down. Then I came home and praticed waxing and polishing. I do not think the previous owner did much of that. He was probably to busy riding it. I will be too as soon as it warms up.

I'm so glad to have a fellow bretheren :rotf: I also took delivery of my 2005 K1200 LT today. Oh so sweet! I sent my friends and family an e-mail today titled "My Passion" announcing my purchase, complete with pictures.

I've admired BMW Bikes from afar for over 25 years. Having come from the 1970's era Honda 750 crowd, I've got an appreciation for well built machines.

This looks like a really cool site, and I look forward to sharing my experiences...

Regards,
HenryM

You're a funny guy! Now, you know, if you spend too much time cleaning it, you'll cause too much rain...
