Any breaking news as to whether BMW intends to modify the GT final drive to add a drain plug?I've heard some of the '08 bikes come with a drain plug. Not sure which models though. And I doubt they'd modify existing drives, so you'd have to buy a new housing. Preferably wrapped around a whole new bike, if BMW has any say in the matter. :)

I have a special (large) syringe with some thin tubing so I can remove the old fluid, flush it out with some new and then refill it withing 30 minutes without ever having to remove the final drive to drain. Works like a champ!

That's how my dealer (Touring Sport) does it, Jack, but they've got the system automated: they use a vacuum device driven by their shop compressor to get the old fluid out. Works great.

Cool...I've got my friend that makes tools working on something like that too. I am hoping it will work well. ;)

Can you describe your procedure in more detail? Sounds like a great idea.

My 08 GT appears to be sealed; no drain plug in the bottom. I guess Jack might make a few bucks on his "sucker/filler" contraption once it gets finished! :D

Seriously, if you end up with an easy to use solution you should think about marketing them.

Do you have a pic of that tubing? I tried to use a very small diameter tubing and it still wouldn't fit. If you have something that works that easy, I'll prolly change my final drive fluid every oil change (6000m). I changed it on my Wing every other oil change and never had a problem with well over 100k on the clock.
If you friend comes up with a solution, how about a group buy? :D

Just changed mine using a really large syringe with a long piece of small diameter (1/8") tubing attached. Did it through the drain hole!

Fed the tubing down to the very bottom of the drive, sucked it all out real good...added a little fresh gear oil...turned the wheel a few times...let it settle and sucked that small portion out...then refilled with with 220ml of fresh fluid (and on my 07 GT 220 ml filled it to just beginning to run out of the drain hole) buttoned it up and was ready to go in less than 25 minutes. No rear drive removal!!!! Worked like a champ!

I'll see if I can find some 1/8", the tubing that I had was more like 1/4" and wouldn't fit around the gears.

Last week while at Daytona Bike week, I test rode a
K1200GT. The final drive had a 6 o'clock drain plug and
4 o'clock filler plug. I took this as good news in that
possibly BMW has changed & improved the problematic FD's and also made fluid service easier. However, when I checked with the local dealer here in Canada, the 2008 GT they had on display did not have the same FD, there was only a 3 o'clock drain?

They claim there has been no change in FD's and could not explain why I saw otherwise on the 2008's in Daytona.

If anyone owns or has seen the FD drain configuration on a 2008 bike, please advise if you are seeing this change?
The 2008 LT on the floor however did have these drain plugs! Something is going on and BMW is not being forthcoming.
