Surely there is a better funnel than the paper ones BMW furnishes. Ideas will be appreciated? I did try to search as I feel sure that I am not the only one looking for such. Maybe it's just me but I had no luck. Thanks in advance.

Bob's BMW (www.bobsbmw.com) sells a Red Line Oil Funnel (PN 35-2115) that works good for me. It's $7.95 in the catalog I have.

Howdy... actually, no... the "paper" funnels are about the "best" ... there are other "solutions".. such as buying a funnel and hose.. (clear hose works best to "monitor" how the oil has flowed.

They sell some at Va-tozone.. or Y'all Murt... or, if you want less class, check this out:

Lay the bike down on the LH side, fill with ease then have a good workout picking her up again.
Obviously you have to guess a lot as you cant see the fill line. Just lay her down again to top up, but that is all part of the work out.
:rotf:
Seriously, I use a small watering can and a plastic pipe

Just a tip: When travelling to CCR from Vancouver last year I found the Plastic Dixie cups offered in most motels work great as emergency oil funnels. Just split in half, fit 1 half into other and peel out the bottom. You can bend them fit into the oil filler hole and then dispense with in the motels din (inside a plastic bag of course to minimise environmental impact.

Wally world sells a nice liquid funnel thangie that is a snap to use. It has measuring figures molded into the cup portion; a twist stop/flow feature; and a long, clear tube to watch while adding fluids. I originally bought two - one for engine oil and one for the tranny/rear drive fluid - butt now I use a plastic baby bottle to fill the tranny and rear drive. Accurate measuring and again, no mess. Now, couple this with an absorbent doggie training pad and ain't no mess when finished - ok; there is, butt it's minor!!! ;)

Thanks Dick. I have one of these but am looking for something more compact for traveling. I might see how proud Lonestar BMW is of the paper funnels. I will be there tomorrow anyway.

Thanks much. Seeing your and other K trikes at the CCR whetted my appetite and started me down the road...

Thanks. I guess?

yeah.. anytime..

BTW... if you carry some aluminum foil you can fashion a funnel by forming it... or just fold it a couple of times then crease to make a long groove.. you don't need a "top" on it.. just make a little creekbed ...in the shape of a long "v"....

NAPA Sells an adapter that fit the new (big mouth) oil bottle. The adapter and a pice of plastic tubing is the way I went.
Sorry, I do not have a part #.

Price is about $3.00.

All of this time I thought Texans used long horns to fill the engine oil.

I found some el-cheapo accordion style filler tubes at Wal-Hole. I think they were under a buck, maybe way under. They screw on the top of the oil bottle (regular size, not Mobil-1 large size) and stretch out to several inches long. You can put the end into the filler hole while the bottle is upright then tip. Flexible enough so it's easy. They're threaded on both ends and I use 2 put together. collapse them & put in a Ziplock bag for next time. Or they're cheap enough to be disposable I suppose, if you don't want to risk a mess.
