View Full Version : Question about GG Technik Armrests

I'm looking to buy a set of armrests for my '06 LT. I've looked at Don Muddimans (SP?) and the Ztechnic armrests, but both require significant drilling in to the topcase. I'm not sure I want to do that.
I could not find any documentation on the GG Technik armrests, so thought I might ask here to see if anyone knows how they are mounted/installed?

NO drilling of the topcase is required with Donīs armrests.

Had the arm rests on now for about 18 months and my wife really likes them. Comes with a template to drill the top box, easy enough. You need to remove the liner first and then IIRC 3 holes to attach. No way to avoid drilling that I can see. Quality fitting which most people think is OEM. Cheers

Plus 1 on GG armrest!!!!! Sammie will not ride without them.Although they are a lil pricey Don's are a good fit also at about half the price.

I have disagree with the others and give a -1 on the Technik armrests. My wife likes the comfort but as the driver I find them a real pain. You have to flip them back to open the top case but if you leave them back they appear right in the center of my mirrors and block the view behind. If I had a do over I would get the ones that flip vertically. Can't change now because my top case is already drilled.

+1 for Don's armrests....they can also be removed easily when not in use leaving the almost invisible bracket installed. The best instructions that I have see anywhere!

...and yet another +1 for Don's design. They take a little time to install, but are designed to break away in a fall and can be completely removed leaving no trace of the installation. A definite plus if and when you ever sell your bike, as there is always a demand for used units. I also did a VERY simple mod to mine and now have an excellent place to lock up the helmets:

Ron, where did you get the helmet locks? That looks like a nice solution. On my other bikes I have used Barenders, which are like bar end weights with a lock, however I really don't need to change the balance on this bike.
And +1 on Don's armrests. Took a while to install them, but I was overly cautious every step of the way. Simple process, simple mind.

OK, so far I have not seen any information on the GG Technic armrest. These are not the same as the Ztechnick armrests shown in post number 3. A good picture is available on the Beemer Boneyard at:
http://laserstraight.com/proddetail.php?prod=ArmRest_GG_BC
And from the picture, you can see that they do not require drilling the sides of the top case. They also fold back like Don's do as well.
Can anyone provide specific information on how they are mounted?

Arthur,
Here's a quote from Mark Neblett that I found in the archives re: the GG Technic armrests:
"I have the G&G armrests. Very good quality; they're currently on their third LT
The G&G are more of a pita to install, but the resulting mounting is very strong, yet hidden. They also allow you to disconnect the trunk strap on the left -- always annoyingly in the way for me, but then, I'm left handed
The G&G mounts require you to remove the speaker housings, then drill out the 6 rivets on the upper half of the hinge plate (6 rivets on each side), lay in a support plate, drill an additional hole or two, then bolt and rivet it all back together. I'm biased due to my satisfaction with the units, but I don't think the effort is too much for the end result.
HTH,

I have a set that I still have not yet installed. The price on LTParts is excellent. I found a new set on Ebay for $450. I like them because the vinyl is precisely the same as the LT's vinyl (the GG Technic are made in Switzerland) and I like the look of the armrests better than the others talked about here. Chrome base too. They really look factory original. In fact, I also have the GG Technic backrest, which, by the way, is not quite as comfy as the Bakup, but I think it looks great. Form before Function!! Best of luck.

Mark,
Thanks. I did a search but didn't turn up this tidbit. LTParts doesn't currently have any either, but my dealer if offering anything I buy during the first 30 days at cost. So, I'm looking to get a set of GG Technic armrests from him if possible.
If I only have to do the work listed, then it's much less intrusive than Don's armrests and I like the look better.

FWIW, I placed my order today with the dealer for the GG Technik armrests. If anyone else has any questions about them, feel free to PM me. I should have them in a week or two (Eurotech was currently out of stock, but they are scheduled to arrive shortly is what I was told).
