Had some spare time today and after ready all posts about final drive failure, I decide to change GL in both FD and trans. Both Gl's were changed at 30k and I now have 45K on the bike,(2000 K1200LT, purchased used with 32K). I inspected both lubes after draining and found no chunks of metal from either part of the bike. I did find "fuss" on both magnetic drain plugs with noticebly more on the tranny plug. I also did the "shake" test with hands at 3&9 o'clock but found no perceivable movement in the rear wheel. How much crud on the drain plug is acceptable??? Also, I used Royal Purple synthetic gear lube in both FD and Trans. I am also planning on changing FD lube every time I change motor oil, (3-4K.)

Since you don't know if the magnetic plugs were carefully cleaned at 30k, I would consider this time the "baseline". After 45k, quite a bit of crud can accumulate. In the future expect a small amount of "fuzz" each time, that is OK but watch for needles about 1/4" long or more. Any sudden increase in these is serious.
