Ok, I screwed up and snapped the mount end off a screw. The ball shaped part that the spring locks onto. The dealer is 150 miles away. Has anyone found a source for these? Is BMW the only user of these things?
Hint #10,001: never use a wratchet when an allen wrench will do, especially on a 4m screw

Try Chicago BMW they give 20% off. I believe P/N 51167655592, locking pin is what you're looking for. Retail price $5.30.

I ordered two from my dealer, $6 ea. Apparently BMW is the only user of these screws.
The clear packing tape should hold the front of the mirror until they arrive.

Sounds like it should work I have used zip ties. This way it is cheep to replace them. I never secured them before last summer when one of mine was knocked off and damaged. I found out they are $350 so a tethering I will go :D
