Hacking into Garmin 2720

Anyone hack into the 2720 to get audio output? Does it run on 12V or something lower?

I don't have an intercom system, but I was thinking of using the cassette adapter I use for mp3 playback.

I want to get to an audio line in the 2720 and feed it into the LT's speaker system via a cassette adapter. I use a cassette adapter now to feed audio out from my MP3 into the LT's radio/speaker system.

What's wrong with using the headphone jack on the side ?

I just made up a cable and ran it to the gps input of my intercom and no issues.

I use a cassette adapter now to feed audio out from my MP3 into the LT's radio/speaker system.If you buy the Garmin motorcycle mounting kit (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290206385124), it comes with a power cable that has a 2.5mm port (for audio out) integrating right into the cable. No hacking needed. Maybe you should contact a Garmin dealer and ask if you can buy just the cable without the cradle. Should save you some bucks. Give Sean a call at CycleGadgets.com.

What's wrong with using the headphone jack on the side ?There isn't any headphone jack on the side of a 2720. Just the 2730 and 2820.

Since it runs on 12-13V, I'd rather take the lighter plug apart, put my own connectors on it for DC, and then take the audio line for the built in speaker, as long as it is suitable as an audio input line (or called and audio output line).

I really don't want to play around with having to change the impedance of the audio line to the speaker to use it as an input to a cassette adapter.

Yes, The motorcycle cable is definately in order here. The jack is mono, but in your case since only getting voice commands you'd be just fine.

Tearing it up and putting in your own jacks would void the warranty if there is any. But that sounds like something somebody like me would also do.

I see the cig plug has a 3 amp fuse. Sorta hard to believe it draws more current than a CB?

I see the cig plug has a 3 amp fuse. Sorta hard to believe it draws more current than a CB?Attached is the pin layout for the plug that goes into a Garmin StreetPilot. The Garmin motorcycle cord has all the wires in it. The motorcle cord has a 1 amp fuse according to the manual for my 2820.

be careful!!! I put my garmin into the bike speakers and it worked great till I turned on the radio it fed back into the garmin and blew up the audio circuit :eek: and it cant be fixed here, repairer wont touch it, to old I no longer have any audio :(
