Starting with the latest maps (Map Update 2008 City Navigator® North America NT), no longer can you use one disc to update two units. According to the Garmin rep I talked to today, we will need to buy an update for every unit we own. Kinda sucks.
The good news is, if you have an older unit that's not registered ... no big deal anymore. With the new update disc, you'll receive an unlock code that will work with any unregistered unit.

Sucks, yes. But look at the "other" side. You have a small business using 20 nav's, buy 1 map, use them across all. Not good for big G, not good for us. And I hope there's not a hack out there to thwart it either. But if there were I would use it as would the small business, thus doing nothing for big G except grabbing more dollars from those less fortunate...

There is slightly more good news. In the past, you used to have to get the updates from Garmin alone. Now they have several retailers selling their updates (WalMart, Cabella's, Bass Pro Shop, etc...). So if one doesn't like dealing over the phone or internet, you can just visit a local retail outlet.
FWIW, this eBay seller (http://cgi.ebay.com/Garmin-Map-Update-2008-City-Navigator-NT-North-America_W0QQitemZ290205243804) is the cheapest I've found online at just $57.98 to your door. Not too shabby.
