I bet the southwest boys will soon start talking about another Red river NM ride in May. Now is the time to set aside a little vacation time. Red river is an excellent destination and riding area. There will be a lot of good folks going if past years attendance is any clue. So, Is anyone from the NW interested? Besides the company and riding, This is green chili country! (Eating not growing)

Brian,

Are you talking about a ride to the Memorial Day Motorcycle Rally (Red River Rally)? http://www.redriverrally.com/

I would be interested in going. That said, it is REALLY difficult for me to project being able to take time off that far in advance. Lately, I'm finding work and life to be far more dynamic than I would like. ;)

Darrel,
You and your GT would love the area. I know its a long way away and I agree with you. I just wanted to plant the seed. For me it will be a last minute decision based on weather. If the mountain passes are clear I will be going. If they are snowed in I will not. It will be a back road thing or I will not go. I did not buy the GT for the slab.

Brian,

What route do you have in mind? The more back roads the better so long as they are passable. What ya thinkin?

Dan,
I have not finalized the route yet, But a detour thru Colorado and utah does seems like a good idea. I wanted to go last year but ran out of vacation time. Last year I asked Randy and some of the other area riders and they said the passes should be fine. Of course a last minute weather report will be wise. Our very own Denny is quite knowledgeable with riding that area in the spring. What say you master Denny? Living here in the NW we would never think about crossing 7-12k high mountains in may. Heck most passes here over 5k are still closed until late may or june. I guess all that sunshine makes a difference.

I've gone the last 4 years or so and luckly have been able to cross all passes in CA, NV, AZ, UT CO and NM. But having said that last year we on the way home had to ride in the wheel tracks of an over night snow.

As for a route I can give you more than a few and I always avoid the interstates. Or we can just meet on the back side of Nevada around Ely and go play amoung the rocks of UT. :D

John,
Its always a pleasure to ride with you. The interested parties going from the NW will look into a route to Ely. If not there we could meet up in Utah. I have booked a room with two beds in case some one needs a room.

Here's a few teasers...............

The inside picture of the Kitchen is from the three room cabin in Red River. If anyone wants to go in on the cabin let me know. It has three separate bedrooms, 2 baths and is less expensive than getting mutiple rooms.

Nice pics John,
I hope it is nice and sunny this year like in your pics. I am not sure the other fellows will enjoy your route thru the bumpy red stuff on their LT's. Have you forgotten the back road from grants pass to the coast already?

The Dirt road sections I posted are optional loops in Monument Valley and Valley of the Gods NRA.
I would not recommend Monument Valley on any big Bikes, it gets a little to loose but there are jeep tours. The loop through Valley of the Gods was easy hard pack that any bike could handle when dry.
As for the routes all paved unless we want to do some detours.

I'll bet a Tiger could handle em though! Provided the rider could that is!

Brian -

Just noticed that the dates cover a commitment Michele and I have - bummer as I'd like to get my desert fix in the near future. I have suggestions for a number of routes including pass-open and pass-closed options on two-lane roads. I'll put something together soon and send it along. I have been wanting to get to the Red River happening for some time and used to live at Great Sand Dunes NM not too far north of there.

HEY! This ain't the Redwood Coast guys! Besides, my favorite flower picker would probably not be on a Tiger ride, so no flower picking is anticipated. The Tiger may be a great ride, but it ain't no LT when your talking two up!

Plus Marilyn and I have decided to forego the flower picking on the fly ever since our Hwy 101 episode!

Can't say I ani't thinking about it Dan! But first things first: need to ride the new toy around a little closer to home just to make sure I can handle her for the distant trips.

One step at a time!

Yep! To think that they will ever forget our finest moment on that WCR would be the equivalent of thinking that the Meese machine was a clean machine!

And if you want to test out that new Tiger, you could always just make an HDDC dinner. Hell, I'd probably even meet you there. :D
