Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary, I'm Gary too.
I used a mount from Ram that replaced the clutch reservoir cover. I ran the power cable under the handle bar cover and then back to the battery under the left side cover. Very clean and fairly easy install.
I like having it there Very handy.
I've got a few pictures. Hope they work.

I am fighting the same battle Gary. I got my new unit on Saturday and I know where to go (BMR or Cycle Gadgets or both) to get the mounting hardware but I cant decide where I want this thing. Will it block my view or be too much of a distraction with it on the shelf ?? Or is it more detrimental for it to be on the bar end out of my line of site. I also see guys that mount them just behind the radio buttons down low but that blocks the gauges. I would love some feedback as well.

The reason I got the BMR was that it's in your line of sight and getting to the power was easy, the factory Zumo mount by the radio buttons you need to look down and take your eyes of the road. I looked at the RCU and the BMR version is more flexible on what you can add.

+1 for the BMR shelf. This puts the GPS straight ahead in your line of sight, doesn't impede your view of the road, and is accessible with right or left hand. Power and com wiring goes straight into the nose cone area, for a very easy and clean install. -Chuck-

That's a good looking mount.
I haven't ridden a lot at night yet on the LT, are the instrument lights a problem?

+3 on the BMR co-pilot shelf. This how mine looks! I used the angle bracket that BMR sells and the mount that comes with the Zumo.

Here's mine:

For long trips, I screw the XM antenna (on the left shelf) on to the shelf so it can't get stolen (easily).
For occasional use, I have the Zumo steel plate mounted on the shelf so I can stick it on with the magnetic base.
VERY easy to mount the Ram base. It's right under my nose and from the first ride with it, I found it easy to see, easy to push the buttons, not in the way, and not the least bit distracting. You have to look down about 5 inches to see it, however, I found myself using the speedomer on the Zumo 99% of the time. The dash is so much further to look, and the Zumo is a digit, not a gauge.

Gerard, That is what I wish to do on my 02. I have the old SP III that came with the bike and it is mounted thru the map light. I like the G P S in this place. Any details would help as I am buying a 550 replacement.

I made two pdf files that I posted on the French Yahoo group of K1200lt owners...here they are !!
If you can't guess what I wrote in French..try an online translator or ask me again (I'm subscribed to this thread). Start by drilling the hole for the screw, then weld the flat piece and bent it up so it follows closely the rear side of instrument the bent it down so it goes through the light hole. Weld with only one point the part for the upper screw so you can adjust precisely its position then weld it completely.
Cost was only few euros...., no vibrations, allows up or down position and removable to initial set up with panel light.

Great minds think alike, I did mine similar to yours last fall...works great! Perfect height, though it doe s slightly block the speedo at around 70...I use the digital speed on the Zumo anyway.

Daaaaaaaam!
Dave.
I've never seen a bug as big or as well mashed into a windshield as the one in the upper left hand corner of your ride.

Its not a bug. Something the wife has hanging on the wall with moss in it. The wife had to decorate the garage with a camping theme!

I have an '03 K1200LTE that I replaced the Streetpilot on with a Zumo 550. The installer mounted the Zumo like yours Gerard, but mine is a bit loose. He also put the XM Antenna on the lid of the rear case. It looks awful. Where did you mount the antenna and is there anywhere I can go to get instructions on running the XM audio wire from the Zumo to my right rear case where I have a Dice adapter?
Thanks a lot in advance.
