There is an article in there about the paralever driveshaft on pretty much all models of the BMW. Now, I haven't read the article yet, but I saw a post on the Concours forum that states, according to the article, that these driveshafts will fail at around 40K and that, according to the post, BMW considers this to a "consumable" piece.
I know for a fact there are several 100K+ LTs runninng around out there and I have not seen any mention on this forum about a driveshaft failing.
I dunno, maybe this guy that wrote the article doesn't have a clue. I'll have to go back and read it to see for sure what it says.

I don't think BMW's universals are built good enough. I lost a seal at 36K, but haven't torn into it yet to see the condition of everything else. It seems a little stupid to not put a grease zirc in it and make them rebuildable easier. Same thing goes for our Dodge, they are all sealed and they were almost completely froze at 20K.

Sorry but just my $0.02...
I do not think that is what the article says. He has been discussing this for two issues now and I do not recall that sort of info being mentioned anywhere.
But, I heard that Full Synthetic oil is made from bio diesel and you can actually taste the french fries and not only that... that we ought to replace our final drives at the 24k service just to be safe....and...
I think you get my drift...
(FWIW I think you ought to at least read the article before poking a stick in the hornets nest....)

The article mentions the R100GS as having most of the problems followed by the R100R and some of the K bikes in the 1990's

Right-on dad...
OBTW riding that GT is probably a real challenge in Boerne, Texas.
I got a nice "performance" award there once (used to live in spring, TX). Got to go to Ding Dong School and everything... what fun.
