 It is way to quiet out here. You would think it was winter or something. Hey! Marcia and I are heading to Hawaii a week from this Friday. I'll make sure to have a beverage or 2 for everyone.

Well, I could tell y'all about riding through Oregon in the 20's and 30's last week (heated gear all cranked up). Or leaving at 4 a.m. Thursday to miss the afternoon storms in the Siskiyous but still ending up with about 2" of snow over the pass. I was in a rental truck with the bike tucked securely in the back, but it was still exhilarating. And after I braved the mountains, I still had to cut over to 101 and head along the coast since I-5 was closed north of L.A. - due to snow.
Sorry I didn't get a chance to hook up with folks but it was another quick in and out trip. At least I got to ride on the way up, although I did take the scenic coastal route. :)

Well there ya go Art! First a Meese sneaking up & back down post as well as "Shredder" saying "Something" just like you asked for!
Ted, glad to see that almost everyone got back from DVD without a hitch. I think I saw something about one of the gang having a "Ford" problem on the way home?
Art, don't forget to check out the Hideaway Club on board the Coast Guard Air Station at Barber's Point! That's in Ewa (pronounced Eva!) Beach on Oahu. Have a couple of those great beers in my honor. I am an alumni in good standing from back in the late '70s!! They actually have the cockpit of an HH-52A helicopter hanging on the wall!

Hey! Marcia and I are heading to Hawaii a week from this Friday.
Hawaii sounds wonderful, especially given the lovely weather we are having. I hope that you don't feel too guilty when thinking of us poor soles back here in the wet and cold. :D Have a great time.

Yeah I had a good time. I didn't blow up a motor this year and didn't ride a touring bike off the road into the sand:)
Dan had a little motor trouble but he was back on the road this mornin and should be home any time.
Can't wait to go back next year!!

Ya know I think I'd love to join you guys down there for all that off road stuff if I could just pick up a Dual Sport machine. I really don't want to take the LT cause I'd just be envying all you DS/GS Guys!

I'm glad to hear that people are still out here. It does sound like it would be fun to go to Death Valley but not on the LT. I'll have to think about going something about that as well.
Ken, how come you didn't let us know you were here. We could have gone out for dinner or something.

We won't have a bike over there and the weather should be great. I lived there for 5 years and don't believe that I'd like riding a bike there anyway. To me it would be more fun to go somewhere with nice weather and rent a bike.
But we will suffer through this trip and tip a few while soaking up some sun (of which I'm suppose to hide from). I'll take some pictures and post when I return. We will not have a computer but will have our phones.
I may have to gear up this weekend and get out just for fun regardless of the rain.

We are a difficult group to convince that we "need" to meet for dinner you know. So you could be the catalyst you know.
When is your next trip up this way?

Hey Art -
Greetings from sunny Newport Beach enjoying a great rain break. Michele and I did a week in Hawaii in mid December and left a tab for 10 beers at the local pub! Have a great time.
Although Death Valley is truly dual sport country I found plenty of great roads to ride with my LT last year. It's worth the trip.

Hey Ken,
How many miles on the bike now ?

How many miles on the bike now ?Just under 35,000. It'd be out of warranty already, but I had to drive a rental truck south on my last trip. :)

Ken,
Congrats on the miles.
Curious if you are/have getting an extended warranty? If so, which one?

I knew the GT would be a high mileage bike, so I did some research and got the extended warranty when I picked up the bike. Pinnacle and Western Services consistently got good reviews from customers and dealers alike. When I spoke to my dealer about it, they said that they only deal with Pinnacle and Western Services based on their own positive experiences with those two companies. I went with Western Services, which was slightly more expensive but covered more items than Pinnacle.
So now I'm covered under most circumstances for up to 7 years. To me, it was worth the small extra cost added onto the price of the bike. And in fact, I got enough of a discount on the bike price that the extended warranty was basically free.

Ken,
Now the million dollar question. How many tires have you put on ?
meese
Feb 1st, 2008, 5:56 pm
Four front tires and seven rear, counting the factory originals. Not bad for 10 months. :D
I still like the Avon Storms the best for great traction, even wear, and quick handling, but a rear BT021 that I picked up on the way back from CCR was also pretty good. Pilot Road 2CTs felt good, but wore a bit funny and didn't get all that much better mileage despite their higher cost. I wont use the Roadtech Z6 tires again, as the rear goes from lots of tread left to literally on the cords very rapidly. Not good when you get into some of the out of the way places that I do. :)

Wow thats a lot of tire money! That sounds like 5k per rear tire, seems like your riding alot more with this bike compared to the LT.
The GT must be more fun so those miles just fly by. Speaking of the LT is she still around?

The GT must be more fun so those miles just fly by. Speaking of the LT is she still around?Well under 5K for the Z6s, 6-7K for the others. The last tire was just put on and has only 1K on it so far (all put on in one day :)). Tires are like gas & oil, just part of the price of admission.
A lot of that was commuting between SoCal and Oregon, plus several summer LD rallies which could add 2K-4K over a long weekend. :D
Still have the LT. I need to strip a few more bits off before I can send it to consignment but I've been too busy either working, riding, or working on the house. I did put 100 miles on the LT on New Year's Day, but that's pretty much it since I picked up the GT. Someone recently described the LT as an old girlfriend that put on a few too many pounds but still knows how to dance, which I find pretty accurate. Still, it's gonna be sad to see her go. :(
