Commuting in FlatLand - Jan 28 (http://davedragon.rilysi.com/2008/01/bmw-motorcycle-riding-travel-rilysi_28.html)

http://bp0.blogger.com/_YEW26cjh_-M/R53gLZEgwpI/AAAAAAAADHk/f8SJS8TNGRM/s200/CIMG2556.JPG (http://bp0.blogger.com/_YEW26cjh_-M/R53gLZEgwpI/AAAAAAAADHk/f8SJS8TNGRM/s1600-h/CIMG2556.JPG)
40 degrees f. under crystal blue sky's were the conditions for this mornings Motorcycle Commute to Tampa.

What a beautiful morning for a 35 mile Motorcycle Ride!

http://bp3.blogger.com/_YEW26cjh_-M/R53gMJEgwqI/AAAAAAAADHs/8Rnx89Rhcdc/s200/CIMG2559.JPG (http://bp3.blogger.com/_YEW26cjh_-M/R53gMJEgwqI/AAAAAAAADHs/8Rnx89Rhcdc/s1600-h/CIMG2559.JPG)
Traffic moved very well on the surface streets and it was easy to safely work my way to the head of the pack where the road is clear and no traffic to either side.

http://bp2.blogger.com/_YEW26cjh_-M/R53gM5EgwrI/AAAAAAAADH0/2c_5px_j_OU/s200/CIMG2560.JPG (http://bp2.blogger.com/_YEW26cjh_-M/R53gM5EgwrI/AAAAAAAADH0/2c_5px_j_OU/s1600-h/CIMG2560.JPG)
The FHP Cruisers were out in force running ambush on the Toll Roads as usual.

http://bp1.blogger.com/_YEW26cjh_-M/R53gNpEgwsI/AAAAAAAADH8/JRTxtSwev5M/s200/CIMG2562.JPG (http://bp1.blogger.com/_YEW26cjh_-M/R53gNpEgwsI/AAAAAAAADH8/JRTxtSwev5M/s1600-h/CIMG2562.JPG)
Then there was the Traffic Slinky that started about a mile North of the Gunn Highway exit.

I jumped off the Toll Road to surface streets and snaked my way to the office.

The temp climbed it's way up to 45 f. by time I completed my commute.

Another beautiful Monday Morning in FlatLand!

Nice ride to the office this morning, on dry roads for the most part, 54F this morning.

Sunny outside now (almost 3:00 pm). Can't wait to get out of here and ride home without rain for a change, then change vehicle and go pick up my little girls from school! (Insert proud parent picture here!:D ).

You guys S_ _ K!

We are going to get up to 50 tommorow (Ohio), but the winds speeds are suppose to match the temp. and I dodged a few crater sized chuckholes on the way home from work with the car, then theres the SALT!

Keep sending in those pics!

I now know how to assure a solid snow fall year in Reno/Tahoe. All I have to do is buy a new, to me at least, bike. I'll ride in almost anything, but not in this ice and snow. We've had 3 solid weeks of 'probable snow showers' now. I'm beginning to had the weather websites.

This morning on the way to work my truck was spinning coming off intersections even in 4 wheel drive. Solid ice in spots.

Oh well, I just got my Garmin Zumo 550 and need to install it. At least that's something.

Loved the ride pictures.

Dave, and Ron, and all you southern boys: you're killing us! Snow and ice are no fun, and are keeping my LT in the garage.

That said, today it's supposed to be 51 here in central Ohio. Although it will rain all day today I think I'll ride to/from work. First chance I've had in 3 weeks to do that.

Only because Dave bugs me about it with his incessant "who rode to work today" posts (kidding!), I rode to work today. Last night's warm-up melted the last snow and ice we had. It rained all day today. Hit an early high of 50, then dropped after lunch and will keep dropping all night. More snow tomorrow!

That said, if I had known how windy it was going to be this afternoon I would NOT have ridden. I was genuinely afraid of being blown off the road numerous times on the way home. Not fun.

Well, You can tease me all you want.. :p

I can take it.

For the last 35 years I have put my M/C away in the fall when the weather gets to the freezing temps.. and I uncover it after two big rains have washed away the winter sands from the DOT trucks trying to keep the cages from crashing into one another. Now with the DOT using a salt brine instead of sand I might only have to wait for one good rain!.. See I'm happier already!

The advantage that I have by putting my machine away for the winter season is when it becomes time to ride again it is like I become renewed.. something really worth waiting for and a day that I savor.

I know it will eventually be spring.... it comes every year. Hopefully spring will come again this year so I can participate.. I'll admit that I would like to ride longer or even all year but the 7 or 8 months that I do ride make up for the hibernation time..

ping ----> your turn... :D

Dave, please explain your neck of the woods. Is the FHP after toll road speeders or driver's that are evading the fare?

I take it that even for the pleasure of paying for the road, the surface streets are faster?

OK you snow bunnies up north, how's this for a near perfect day in Flat Land?
Met up with a bunch of "bikers" around 8:00 yesterday morning. Had one of them big ol' CRACKER BBL breakfasts. Morning temp around 50°. After breakfast I lead 22 bikes down to Plant City and the PARKSDALE FARM MKT. For the uninformed, this place is famous for it's fresh made STRAWBERRY SHORT CAKE. Really! They actually have bus trips to this place just to eat shortcake. Anyway, we all ordered up a huge serving of shortcake, fresh strawberries, topped with ice cream and whipped cream! Temp around noon at 72°. Then took about a 3 hour ride home. Arrived home around 3:00, took a double dose of cholesterol medicine and a short nap. It don't get much better hand that!

It was a balmy 42 degrees here yesterday and I had the opertunity to take the GSA for a 112 mile ride around the back roads. This morning it's 11 with a windchill of -10. Maybe I should go out......

Last weekend it was 9 degrees when I finallytook delivery of the new bike. At 70ish mph it makes the windchill about -22. I had a Fieldsheer suit on and the Gerbings were cranked ALL the way up. It was only about a 30 mile trip home, but I was nice and toasty warm.

It topped out at 83 in north Texas today. Winters are hell here!! My wife and I just got back from Wisconsin (-14F) so we had to ride after about 4 hours sleep. No wind and motorcycles were everywhere. It was great...........

That is awesome winter-time riding weather!

I rode my John Deere plowing snow. Does that count? Be riding it more tomorrow if the weather man is right. A mere 6 - 12" of blessed soothing snow.

Rode to Jury duty then home. Sitting here now, suffering through 68 degrees and windows all open... sucks, huh?

I did a shade over 200 miles today. Saw the weather report and just had to get on the road before the next snow storm gets here tonight. Over half way to the 600 mile maintenance on the new GSA. Had the darn thing for 3 weeks and only 329 miles. Even though it's winter in Michigan, that low mileage is embarrassing!

As a side note...I took the bike on a muddy trail today. Mud covered ice is no fun to ride on. Proud of myself for keeping it upright, but man....I sure don't want to do that again anytime soon.

Another beautiful morning for a Motorcycle Commute to Tampa.

66 degrees f. with light rain moving across FlatLand from the front that passed over early this morning.

Traffic moved very well on Surface Streets as well as the Toll Roads, right up to where the Traffic Slinky was stalled on the Veterans Expressway.

A shot from behind the windscreen; My eye line is above the windscreen spoiler so I'm not looking through the screen.

I jumped off the Veterans at Gunn Highway and took surface streets the rest of the way to the office.

This is Henderson Road, near the office where it was still raining.
