How to round a cane handle?

Anyone know how to do this? I have a rather good cane that I would like to do this to (that has a wedged tip on the handle), without butchering the job. I have a hand grinder, but nothing else like a dowel shaver, which I looked into before asking. Is there some kind of grinding tool that would fit over the wood and cut or grind this symmetrically? Thanks in advance!

Wrap it in course sandpaper and wear a leather glove. Sit back and relax and work it back & forth in the sandpaper.
