Anybody else watching the Barrett-Jackson auction on Speed this week? This event is like crack for me. Much of what's going across the block is a little overpriced IMO, but the heat of the moment bidding will do that. The overall quality of the cars offered (and prices) is going up every year, and realistically they are all worth exactly what someone else will pay for them.
The first of the new ZR1 Corvettes is selling tonight. They're rumored to retail for $100-125K, so it will be interesting to see what the first one offered to the public will bring.
Robo-saurus is also being sold tonight.

Hi, Dave -
I gotta find out if Speed shows a late night rerun of the BJ gig. Cheryl is firmly attached to the satellite remote thangie during the day!! ;)
You're right about a bidding frenzy every now and then; that's what the folks who work the crowds are for!! I'm always amazed at the occasional phone bidder that calls in and bids on a vehicle, without having a face-to-face with it!! BJ does a good enough job in describing and photo-ing the thang, replete with close-ups, etc., I guess. I'm pretty sure you have to be pre-registered, pre-certified and pre-walletized in order to phone bid!!! ;)
I'd just like to attend one of their auctions - on-site with duct-tape over my mouth and both hands tied behind my back!! ;) :D

I've watched WAY too many hours of that damn show. Amazing to me how much disposable income is out there. I think last years auction was over 100 million dollars:eek: That's in one week. For cars....

They had a pair of Corvettes come through a few minutes ago, a '58 and an '08 Z06. Both were black with red interiors. The owner pre-ordered the Z06 to be produced in sequence so they both had the same VIN numbers. HAD to be with the intention of selling this weekend. They brought $260K. The Z is worth ~70 new, and I don't know if he could've gotten 190 for the '58. Smart marketing.

I recorded all of it and fast forwarded through the cars that did not interest me. Lots of Vettes and Shelby Mustangs. Carroll Shelby's 2007 Mustang Gt went for 600,000 which went to Carroll's charity for children. It was vin number 1. Had a matching Shelby guitar and the opportunity to buy vin number 2 for sticker. The very next car was a Shelby cobra super snake. Only one of it's kind as the other one was totaled. That went for 6,000,000!
Also saw a lot of Hemi Cuda's too. Fun too watch all those muscle cars go through and bring back good memory's. I had a 1970 Z28 Camaro when I was much younger. Should have never sold that one. It was a fun car for three years.
