I have a 2000 LT that was upgraded to the BC-3 Com system. I replaced the battery on the bike last week and when I started it, music was playing through the external speakers. Tried pushing the button to switch it to headsets, but it stays on speakers. The button seems to return to the same position.
Anyone had this before? If it had to lock on one or the other, I would have preferred the headsets...I rarely use external.
(I am in Tempe, Arizona, so it would not be that hard to go down to J&M in Tucson either.)

LowellIf you hold the button on the left side of the ComSystem down, does the sound switch to the headsets?

Mark,
It doesn't even momentarily cut over to headsets that I could tell, but I'll try it again this morning to be sure. Also noticed something last night on the way home: The CB does not work either..no power on the face at all. It is the new handlebar mount BMW CB. Wondering if there are separate fuses for the COM system vs stereo that would cut off the headsets and CB...I will check the fuses tonight. I haven't ridden double up so don't know if intercom is working either.

LowellI don't have the schematics in front of me, but IIRC, the CB gets power through the intercom/radio, so if the CB's dead, the ComSystem probably is, too.

The ComSystem is set up to capture the speaker outputs from the radio, and (when powered) controls whether the radio output is passed back out of the ComSystem to the speakers or only to the headsets. With no ipower to the ComSystem, the default is external speakers on. So, you symptoms match a power/fuse problem.

You can test the ComSystem's intercom operation without a passenger by depressing your PTT switch and listening to hear whether the your microphone circuit is open.

Thanks Mark, I checked the manual and it does not show an extra fuse specifically for the com system in the main fuse box. There may be one internal, though. I will try to take off the tupperware this weekend and see what I can find. I may email J&M just to see if they have an idea.

thanx,
Lowell

I found my problem...the com system has a separate lead off the battery that I did not connect when I reinstalled the battery. The lead had fallen down on the side of battery where I could not see it.
thanx for the help.
