I am considering the leap from my Harley to a 2008 1200LT. It has a gps mount already setup but I was wondering if I will have to purchase a new GPS or if mt 550 will fit in the BMW mount.

Thanks in advance for the advice~!

Yes it will mount to the LT. I did the same thing from my 06 Ultra Classic. You will have to run a new power cable for the Zumo. I moved to the BMW side last year and couldn't be happier, in fact looking to sell the ultra come spring.

Best of luck on your transition!

If you are saying that the 2008 LT you are looking at is equipped with a mount for the BMW Nav III, which is basically a Garmin 2820, then...NO..your Zumo will not work in that mount as the 2820 and the Zumo require different cradles.

If there is a doubt as to which model cradle is on the bike, take your Zumo down to the shop and see if it fits!

Cradles may be different however the Zumo will still fit on BMW's mount sans the cradle. It would be essentially useless anyway as he is using a Zumo 550, not BMW's Zumo.

I don 't see why it would be useless just because it was not a BMW BRANDED ZUMO? Only difference is the power cable and I understand the Sat radio function is disabled. It won't give voice thru the helmet as the nav II and III's do, but, it will certainly work the same as a BMW unit will. Also I believe the BMW unit comes with 3 yr warranty vs the 1 yr on the regular Zumo. I have used both Nav II and a Zumo 550 on my 06 LT.

I was referring to the BMW "cradle" as being useless. The Zumo will indeed bolt right to the existing BMW mount using its supplied hardware. And after checking, there is no BMW cradle (like those used for the previous BMW GPS models) for their Zumo - it is the same as the one supplied with all regular Zumo's. So in actuality, IMNSHO, the regular Zumo is a better deal than BMW's.
