Yesterday Jan and I rode up in the north Georgia mountains to see some icicles. :lol8: It was about 30 degrees. On the way home it was dark and we were freezing. Needless to say, I wasn't wasting much time getting home. But courtesy of the Georgia Highway Patrol I got ticketed for going 83 in a 65 mph zone. :( My radar detector didn't help -- he hit me with a lazer. :o I never saw him. I told him I was hurrying home because we were freezing. He said "I bet you are freezing, so I wouldn't hold you up long so you can be on your way." I thought maybe he would show me some mercy, but no such luck. :rolleyes: The last time I was stopped it was in the day time and the LEO complimented me on riding such a nice bike. He just gave me a warning. No such luck this time. The court date is on Valentine day and Jan told him that if he gave us the ticket that I wouldn't be able to buy her a dozen roses this year. :( He said maybe I could afford a half dozen. No simpathy this time-- but he was a nice guy. :bmw:

I have a Cobra detector shashed up under the nose with the sound wired through the com system. It's out of the way and I don't have to worry about someone lifting it. The down side is the laser detector doesn't work with it mounted out of sight. But from what I've heard, once your detector picks up a laser, you are already clocked anyway.

We should start a BMWLT Ticket Fund.

We all chip in a buck and as one of us gets a ticket the fund pays.

Now if we could just get out of the points.

Knock on wood, I haven't gotten a ticket in over four years.
Lord knows I have been pulled over.
I try to ride local, the law doesn't seem to bother the residents to much.
I sure see a lot of FL tags with the blue lights behind them. I also see a lot of FL tags go blowing by me like I am sitting still going 70MPH.

I think a ticket fund would be a cool option here.
It would need to only be applied to donating members... This would be something the admins could build.

rule of thumb, stay under 80 mph. traffic laywer will always get the ticket dropped down if below 80. At least here in North Carolina. Most cops will not bother pulling you on the interstate unless you do something really stupid (weaving, reckless driving, passing them ) if you are doing under 80

But honestly, doing 83 when it's well below freezing? One patch of ice and you could have had a much worse day of it.

A radar detector is useful, but doesn't guarantee anything. It's just another piece of useful information about the road ahead.

I'd have invested in a set of heated clothing myself. :)

I got lasered once in WA by a LEO standing at the side of the road and my V1 let me know it immediately. The LEO just happened to be rather sluggish putting his laser gun away and getting back into his car. There just happened to be an off ramp just around the next corner. And I just happened to need gas from the far back pump island at that very moment.

After filling up, I took a few scenic back roads to my destination and arrived without incident. Coincidentally, I was headed to the Gerbing factory to get more heated gear. :)

Got one last month doing 79 in a cage in a 60 zone. The Lady LEO wrote me for a seatbelt ( forgot! :mad: ) and let me ride on speed. Still cost me $130 but, No Points!

This just convinces me that instead of a new "detector" I should buy a laser scrambler. Anybody had luck with those? My son had one in his 300ZX and said more than once he saw a motor LEO looking at his gun, but not pulling him over.

Jan had a set of electrics on, but mine are still on order. To be honest, being cold had nothing to do with the speed. ;)

Depends on how far over the limit and how thick the traffic is. Now that I know (for sure, thanks Al!) GSP is running laser I'm probably going to hold off disabling it on my Escort 8500 from all the false laser alerts. I think out of the last 20 times it's lit up with a laser warning there was only one or two that -might- have been legit. That is, I was traveling a stretch of road likely to be monitored by speed police even if I didn't actually see a "source."

Aprox 1 1/2 yr. ago I got a ticket in wyo. 82/65 zone. fine $91.00. My p/u insurance went from $381.96 (6 mo) to $641.35 (6 mo). I shoped around got it for $277.72 (6 mo) same exact coverage item for item. My motorcycle insurance went from $407.64 (1 yr) to $815.14 (1 yr ). I shoped around got it for $362.03 (1 yr) same exact coverage item for item. both of these new companys knew about the speeding ticket. I consider that speeding ticket a "blissing in disquise" it taught me not to be complacent. Now when my ins. policys come due I shop around ticket or not. Its so easy on the internet you can't afford not to.

Radar jammers are illegal in all states but Laser jammers are still legal. I don't think there are any states that have made them illegal YET.

Just a little hyjacking here: The test Florian posted impressed me. but it didn't say anything about mounting on a motorcycle like Laser Blinder does, so I contacted the Laser Intercepter company by email and asked the following questions:

By default when you purchase laser-interceptor you will get dual head system, unlike others that will charge you pro head (LPP,AL...)

What we recomend?



We recomend a standard laser-interceptor unit (2 heads) for small cars and bikes...



In this case you will need to mount one head front, other head back.



This configuration will give JTG/JFG performance on bikes and on small cars (like civic, fiesta,corsa..)

For larger surfaces like sedans (BMW 3,5 Audi A4,A5,A6) we recomend a dual head front setup, and if you need protection from the rear also then another aditional 2 heads for back.



For extra large cars`s or trucks (including semi J ) we would recomend two quad units..

If I were you, I'd expend some funds and get good competant legal representation. In other words, hire you a liar, I mean lawyer who will know who to pay off tp make it go away.

My last big one (not on the LT so no bragging rights here) got dismissed 24 hours after I paid off the lawyer.

As far as the insurance. Got a performance award years back and got a call from the insurance agent telling me that he was now going to have to increase my bill. Told him that it would be in his best interest to not do so. He did and I called him, he said he had to, I ran the bull shit flag up and cancelled that policy and found another cheaper with another carrier. He called a few days later to talk about the cancelled policy, he got smart so I got smarter, moved all of my vehicles, home owners and business from him to another carrier. Cost him, not me. Best thing he ever did for me, raise my rates and then get smart with me.

Not a lot of people know this, but....

In the UK the 'safety patrols' (speed cops) are not allowed to use their radar guns on motorcycles as the manufacturer will not guarantee they give an accurate reading on such a small moving object unless specialist training is given to the operator - and there are few of those trained operators around.

I wouldn't trust my luck all the same!
