I rode my R1200GS to the Palm Springs, CA area over my Holiday break to visit my folks and I worked in a pair of combined SS1000/BB1500 in the process :bmw:.

SS/BB number one was Issaquah, WA to Palm Desert, CA on 12/21/07-12/22/07. At the end of my ride in Palm Desert, I met up with a group of MTF riders from San Diego at the Elephant Bar and Grill. Two of them witnessed the end of my ride. That also gives me a 1529 mile RTE :D. I crossed over to US101 at Roseburg, OR (OR-42) and back to I-5 at Willits, CA (CA-20) to bypass the Siskyious. Gustine, CA was where I stopped for some sleep after 1041 miles. This run also ran through the Mojave to Ludlow, CA to get the extra miles needed for the BB1500.

SS/BB number two was Lake Havasu City, AZ to Renton, WA on 12/30/07-12/31/07 for a total of 1544 miles. I rode through parts of Arizona, Nevada, California, Oregon and Washington. I crossed over to US101 at Williams, CA (CA-20) and back to I-5 at Florence, OR (OR-126) to again bypass the Siskyious. I stopped for some sleep in Brookings, OR after 1069 miles. This route ran up to Searchlight, NV to get the extra miles needed for the BB1500.

I will update my blog in the near future on the trip details.

Nice job Jim. And not doing it the easy way either. Cool ride for most of it I bet. I'll be planning a BBG in the late spring that might work for a few riders if they want to do it. More later on that one. ;)

Jim,
Nice write up and a helluva gutsy ride given the weather encoutered!
You certainly earned your "Mile Eater" status.
If you are like the rest of us, you are probably hooked now and this trip will just be the first of many IBA rides.

Thanks to all for the positive comments :sun:. When I was doing my planning I knew these runs were not going to be a slam dunk. I figured I would end up holed up in a motel waiting for better road conditions going one way or the other. I guess it's a good thing I wasn't travelling this weekend .

I have to really thank my wife. While she did mention her concerns early on, once she saw I was committed  to my plan she was very supportive :thumb:. It wasn't until I got home that I found out how worried she was while I was on the road. Even though I was comfortable with everything that I did, I'm not sure I will want to put her through that again .

Bee-de-beee-beeeee-be-beeep, news flash!!!!! My wife, Jean, happened into the room when I just finished the last paragraph. I had her read it. She gave me a big hug, she thanked me and then said the only thing she would have wanted me to change was to call her every few hours to let her know I was OK. Otherwise she wouldn't want to put any restrictions on my LD riding. Can I pick 'em or what :D?

If my Zumo mount hadn't flaked out on me  I would have called more often. One problem I do have is that as soon as I turn the motor off I get so twitchy to get back on the road that dedicating time for a phone call actually creates stress for me. Me being stressed a little is a lot better than having her stressed a lot. I'll just have to make a little mental adjustment.

Jeff, I knew I was hooked after I completed the MTF SS1000 last June. These are the first rides I have done on my own but I didn't really put much less planning effort into the MTF run than I did for these. I am an analyzer by nature so the planning is probably half of the fun for me.

Ernie, I have had a BBG planned for some time. It is a simple out and back on I-90 between Issaquah, WA and Coulumbus, MT. I am also waiting until Spring or early Summer so the passes are a little less risky.

Brian, a RTE is always good fun and nourishing too .
