This year there is some choices:

The Trinity Road Riders (CMA) has the "Polar Bear Run" which starts at Cycle Gear on S.E. Stark info here (http://cmanwr1.org/OR/TRINITYROADRIDERS/events.aspx?region=1&state=OR&chapter=TRINITYROADRIDERS).

Another choice, and one we're going to do, is a RTE in Florence at noon. It would be nice to share some Jan 1 road time with other BMW's, especially since this group thinks BMW riders are a bunch of "Kool Aide drinkin' weenies" . Let's show them ST and FJR riders a thing or two. But beware of "rear drive" jokes. These guys can't get over the rear drive issue. Whatever! :histerica

It should be a good 300+ mile day for sure. Weather should be in the 40's most of the day, so bring some Gerbings. We will be meeting our friend Mark at the Wilsonville Rest area in I-5 at 09:00.

Info posted on the LDRider list:

Wow Ernie, great job on posting the New Year's day runs. Hopefully it will get some out on the Bike where we really need to be! Art & I got out this afternoon for a short Yamhill loop just to warm up his oil on the Bike to finish up the Inspection we had started.

Nice ride with 38' out & about 39' back. Of course then I end up riding home after sunset only to find frost on the saddle before I turn on the old seat heat for the short ride home from Cornelius to Hillsboro!

As far as tomorrow goes, I'm thinking even 9:00 AM may be a little early for this od Biker! Enjoy the ride to Florence, and have some chowder on our behalf, but Art & I will probably make it a shorter loop with a later start tomorrow!

Tks again for the invite, and have a safe ride!

We took our ride on New Years. This was our longest NY Day ride ever with over 331 on the Odom. It was hard to get our "reardrives" out of the hot tub in the AM though. Since our driveway was a sheet of ice at 08:30, and our riding friends were not coming, we decided to take our time.

Getting a late start meant being late to the RTE. When we arrived the group was done eating and were tire kickin' as usual. Being polite and not crashing the party we rode on and had a great lunch down the street. The ride started out at 36' and climbed to 46 sometime through the day, however the temp dropped on the way home back to 32'.

No mishaps and no problems along the way. Wish you were there to chill with us. ;)

Sorry we didn't join you guys Ernie, but it sounds like you had more of a "Chilly" run than a Chowder run! Glad no problems were encountered, especially with the temp drop!

Our ride was much shorter (less than 200 miles) and the temp was 41' to 42' the whole day! Still felt great to get out on the Bikes though, especially with the forecast we're looking at this week. also felt great to get home at the end of the day!

Ernie,
Glad you and Pauline had a good ride. I was really hoping to have clam chowder with you guys. Just wasn't going to happen with the icy morning. I did get out for a local 200 mile ride though. Still needing my clam chowder fix......
