Anyone have any experience with or know of a cruise control unit that will work with the 1150GS? Also, I am looking for one of those accessory light switches that uses the turn cancel button to operate the circuit. Where can I find one?

Jim,
No info re the cruise control. However, the Autoswitch is available from Cycle Gadgets (http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?Item=AS)

These are being used on BMW, Honda, Kaw, & Yamaha, don't see why it wouldn't work on a GS. $88 vs $800, it would work for me!

I have installed an Audiovox cruise on a Honda VTX and in thinking about the GS I would be concerned about two areas.
Speed measuring device ( magnet and sensor) not sure where to install to look good. It would be ideal if you could tap into the ABS sensor and get an acceptable signal that worked but if it messed up the ABS signal it could be a big problem.
Throttle control. Not sure if there is a good point to add a wire to the existing throttle wire to control the speed. On my VTX the throttle body was linked since it tee's into two wires you would have to secure it to the wire before it split.
I loved the audiovox on the VTX it worked like a champ. made touring really relaxing.
I will look into installing a Audiovox this winter. I will remove the tank and see if there is a logical point to add the cruise to the throttle cable.
Since its a single sided swingarm its not impossible but important to look clean.
shame to add a bunch of wires and magnets if they can't be reasonably hidden.

over at advrider some have added cruise, some have used the audiovox at 100 bucks and some part from the rt at like 60
others have spent over 500 on the mccruise unit
I haven't done either to my '07 yet, if I keep it, I will most definitly be adding crusie to it, and it mihgt be the audiovox from what I have read so far, it is about 50/50 on either unit

I have the McCruise from Australia and it works like perfectly. I would highly recommend it.

Too bad BMW doesn't offer cruise on the GS. That would make it almost the perfect bike.

Thank you for the responses. I took a look at the McCruise web site and fortunately my wife's asthma inhaler was handy. The Audiovox system seems to be widely used and is successful for a tenth the price. Now if I can figure a way to install it. I know it's been done but I can't find the post of the person that said he had done so. I'll start with the autoswitch first. :bmw:

Jim,
You know the 2 most common ECC's that are or can be added to m/c's are the Aussy one and the AudioVox CCS-100. If you can find an AudioVox that has been returned (all the parts) they can be had for 30 to 50 dollars depending. And, further the big bucks for the Aust one probably pays for a strong enough servo to not need help using pneumatic boost from the manifold as the AudioVox one does. But, that means about 400 dollars less money and the pneumatic boost works very very well on the motors of the size you are talking about.
I don't know whether your GS followed the changes that RS twins did but if your throttle runs thru an equalizer clevis (splitter) then goes to each throttle body that will be harder to do than the earlier model RS/ RT? that went to 1 TB and the other TB joined it as a follower. On my K1100LT it was very easy because the throttle cam was easily accessed and only a limp ball chain is used and works as well as my K12LT oem. Also I don't see any need to use the "magnetic speed" pickup supplied, just use one of the coils. Nearly all these designs fire evey time the piston approaches TDC whether needed or not (lost spark design) and your AudioVox will very accurately convert that to a speed index and easily hold even on rapidly changing vertical terrain and long grades your speed to about 1 mph or maybe 2 mph for a few seconds then "dead on" from there. The instructions are all there and alot other places too............ ibmwr etc.
Installed one in a ST1300 and it being a "V" brought up that same problem noted above so I fashioned a 70mm long "throttle" arm and using existing holes added to the easiest intake side (accessiblility dictates!) and it was a cake walk from there. My K1100LT and the ST have been on for over 2 years now with zero problems................ you can blip the speeds up/down, resume speed all like an oem one............ My K12LT cruise has also been flawless but I sure like being able to change the AudioVox (ex. how quickly it accelerates to resume etc plus other changes are easy to do where the OEM allows no changes).

I have a friend that has one out west, his is a couple years old and has failed, he also said it never really held a steady speed, maybe they have improved the new units, oh I think it is on a K1200RS (or did he put it on his GS, I forget now, I'll have to ask him again

:thumb: +1 - My McCruise is on an R1200GS but the kits are similar. Over the holidays I used the dickens out of mine on a 3500 mile trip and it worked flawlessly.
The kit comes with a new throttle cable splitter box (Cable Interface Unit) to accommodate the cable from the cruise control actuator. The wiring harness, electronics and mechanical parts are all of OEM quality.
On the R1200GS the speed sensor is mounted on the front brake caliper and magnets are provided that are placed in the Torx recesses on the brake disk mounting bolts. On the R1150GS the speed sensor is also mounted on the front wheel brake caliper but it is not clear what the sensor is triggering on. The installation instructions are not listed for download like they are for the R1200GS.
I'm also afraid that "paid over $500" is a little conservative these days. The current price is closer to $750 .
