G'day Guys,
Seeking info on riders who carry a pillion on their GS either 1150 Adventure or the current 1200. What does the pillion think in terms of comfort and long distance. Is the bike suitable for 2 up touring.

Jake, I have a new GS 1200 and My wife hates to ride on the back compared to our 99 LT. Its Ok with me. We always ride the LT when 2/up is necessary. I will tell you, my buddy bought a passenger back rest from Pirates Lair for their GS and his wife loves it. So,I don't know if I helped at all.

My wife did not like riding on the 04 GS Adventurer. I just replaced it with an 06 RT.

Wellll, when I bought my GS Adv. I quickly had to go to a Corbin seat with a back rest. It gives her something to rest against. I have my Jesse bags on when travelling two up, which cuts into the amount of room for her feet. The best combo is to travel without the Jesse side boxes, so day trips are good, and the bike handles well.
With the GS, you get a separated seat, and it is more comfortable, but a back rest of some kind, or a top box would be appreciated. If you add side boxes, check for clearance for the feet/legs. A fitting for her is important for foot peg, seat, back rest, wind and other factors...and if she aint happy...
There was one couple that did the Iron Butt Rally this year on a GS, I believe, so what the heck do we know?! 12k in 11 days?! Must be a great bike for two up, unless they get on an LT once.
My wife is totally comfortable in all aspects on the LT, and is good to go for long distances day after day. Tuff to compare to any other bike. You'll be fine two up on the GS, but your back seat driver holds all the cards whether its a good two up bike. YMMV

Kevin & Julia of Globebusters fame (http://www.globebusters.com/rides/world/) hold the Guinness World Record for the Fastest Circumnavigation and they did it 2 up.
I had a chance to meet them in Jasper National Park while they were taking a group of a dozen riders on a trans Americas tour this past summer. All GSA 1150's by the way.
