This is about as far north as one can get and looks to be a superb location!

I might have to join the RA after the MOA's decision to hold its annual rally in Wyoming.

I wouldn't be to harsh on the MOA. Gillette wouldn't be my first choice, however it's really not that far from the Big Horn mts, Black Hills of SD, along with Devils Tower. For most the rally will just be a stop over for a few days in a continuing journey of this great country. The faculty by the way is first rate, it may be hot in the daytime but they'll be many places to escape the heat inside and rides to the Big Horns. It will cool off very nice at night with great sleeping weather. This easterner has been to Wyoming many times including this past year and I've enjoyed every single moment.
Trust me, ALL BMW rallies are special, I look forward to every single one that we can attend!
Look at it this way, one of the worst area's in may opinion to have a MOA national rally was Lima, Ohio. It was hot, high humidity, violent storms came through one night, all the roads were as straight as an arrow. And everyone I talked to had a blast including myself and my wife.
The RA rally is in a part of the country I've never seen. Besides, I was scheduled to go to the Honda Hoot that week, I'm now relived that the CEO of Roadgear will do that and I'll be heading to Michigan.

How do you get info on this event its in the upper peninsula of michigan witch is a great place to see if you have never been there before. Me I live in the lower peninsula where the roads are flat and boring to go to the u.p. is something everyone should do in there life time. But be aware the weather can change at a moments notice. So if you go be on the look out for deer and bears on the roads edge and remember to go see copper harbor and Brockway mnt. drive along with all the other sights in the area.

Do you have to join the BMW RA to attend their rally?Pretty sure you don't have to be a member to attend. We had friends ride with us and register for the RA Boise Rally in 2006 that were not members of RA. But why not join. Their magazine is more technical than ON and has some very humerous/sarcastic writers. One thing about the RA rally, though. The male to female ratio is about 45 to 1.
Not sure what the problem is with Gillette other than the lack of "affordable" motel rooms in the area. This has been much lamented on the MOA forum especially from those that did not immediately get lodging reservations or are on "fixed incomes." With a little creativity in your route planning this destination should work out fine for anyone in the west.
