In July 2007 we had some serious fires in the Lowveld ... here is a post I did on the Tripwired Forum ...

Hi

The past two days we had some severe fires in the South African Lowveld and this morning I took my bike and went riding ... looking for some shots of the fires.

Colyn,

I was just browsing the forum and came across your Wildfire Pics post. Great before/after perspective pics. Here in the USA I am in the wildfire business. We call those big fires...Incidences. I am an Incident Meteorologist. I work most of my time in a government National Weather Service (NWS) office...but I am specially trained and equipped to do all my work in the field. I, and about 60 other NWS mets, travel to the fires and work in the camps...using portable satellites and laptops to look at weather data and generate forecast for the fire fighting crews and management team. I brief all the crews as well as go to the fire lines and eat smoke quite a bit.

I've seen a lot of what what your pictures show up close and your pics capture the full extent of the sad effects of uncontrolled fire.

Thanks for sharing.

Tom
