Or is that the land of ICE !
Boy we sure got hit hard on this one.
Didn't get to take too many pictures today because I was taking care of business.
Lost power last night about 11:00 pm as my willow tree descended onto the power lines. The light show was wild !..Kind of like the biggest welder you've ever imagined X 10.
We snuggled in for the night and I didn't sleep a wink, All night long it was CRACK !.. rumble, rumble, rumble as the trees broke and the ice fell.
My yard looks quite a bit better than most. The devastation is fairly complete.
The local high school burned down. You may have seen that on the national news.. That's my little town...
Got up this morning around 9:30 and lit the burners on the stove. I know you're not supposed to do that, But I'd rather die from carbon monoxide poisoning than freeze to death. Proceeded to try to get the Onan in the RV to come to life, No joy...Don't quite understand why, other than it's 36 years old and hasn't been run in five years or so..The news from my 12V TV wasn't very encouraging about repair. Said we could be without power for a as long as a week. So I started looking for a generator... Found one at a local tool store and hauled ass over there to pick it up. Got there as the last ones were going out the door. I truly believe I got the last generator in Oklahoma City. I almost had tears in my eyes as I tipped the guy a 20 who loaded it for me and told him how much I appreciated getting it.
Arrived home to find OG&E literally all over the area. They were just driving down the road with boom trucks cutting away the trees from the power lines.
I guess they cleared a very large area in quite a short time.
They told me they weren't guaranteeing anything about the power at this time and didn't know for sure when it might come back on. I figured it'd be at least tomorrow and set up the gen set...Power up and started running cords. First one to the furnace. HEAT IS GOOD ! Next two to the refrigerator and deep freeze. Next to the TV and a couple of CF's for light. And about three chargers for cell phones and such.
All ran just fine on a 3000 watt generator. I rounded up all my gas cans and made a 40.00 fuel run..Should be good to go..
The power came back on about 6:00 CST. OG&E did an amazing job getting our little town back on line. Major kudos to them.
Didn't get very many pics of the damage. Will take some gooden's tomorrow. Here's a couple taken early in the day so the damage is fairly light. You should see the same tree now..
Did get one purty one after the sun went down..
That's all for now. I'm warm and fed and had a shower.. Total time without power approximately 19 hrs. Total time on the gen set 3.5 hours. Low temp in the house 45 degrees.
P.S. As I was typing this. The entire top just broke off of the tree in pic one..
I'll be more prepared next time.
