View Full Version : City Navigator V. 7 instructions ???

Just upgraded to Garmin City Navigator V. 7 maps for North America. Also got a 256 MB memory card for the BMW Navigator/SPIII. Thanks, Santa. The unlock procedure for the new maps went smoothly - no glitches.

Nice! Taking a trip with just the 128 MB card would be difficult, due to the larger size of each of the map sections in V. 7 of City Navigator. $75 for V. 7 upgrade - thanks, Joe! Gotta re-compute all of my saved routes, however - something to do while visiting my daughter in Austin, Tejas.

When I installed the V. 7 upgrade, one option was to install an Adobe reader file to read the instructions for use of the maps. Having kept my computer fairly up-to-date with Adobe software, I did not choose this option. Now I can't find the instructions anywhere - not in the Garmin folder where everything is installed, nor in any of the MapSource pull-down menu options.

Does anyone know: by not choosing the Adobe reader file install option, did I not install the map instructions ??? Don't think I need them, as everything works as before ... just annoyed that I can't find the instruction file.

Thanks for any help.

Hey Bob, My guess is since you didn't take the install Adobe option, the "Help" file didn't get loaded. I would suggest going back to the CD and search for the .pdf file that contains the "Help" info. Then copy that file to you computer. I'm not sure what directory it should go in tho', since I don't currently have GPS. :(

Joe (messy13) first posted info about the $75 Garmin City Navigator V. 7 upgrade - 1/2 price - direct from Garmin. I bought the 256 MB data card from Darrel Goheen at www.tvnav.com (http://www.tvnav.com/) - about $110 (not sure on this - check his web site).

Thanks, Steve - I even looked on the disk; no .pdf file. I may try re-installing, and OK the option this time to see what happens.

I got the 256 Meg chip for my SP111 from thetwistergroup.com for $97.28 delivered. I also ordered the $75.00 V 7 but have yet to get it from Garmin - ordered on the 14th of November - called Garmin last week and was told they were out but should get some in soon.

Just received my v7 update, paid my money to the company for the unlock code, loaded my CD and it runs for about 10 seconds and then stops. Nothing else happens and I'm now on hold to Garmin, for what the operator says is a 30 minute wait! She is suggesting that I go to the web site I just came from for additional support!

Any one have a suggestion other than ordering another CD? I also tried to read my CD drive directly but the CD only runs for 10 seconds and then stops.

My update was a DVD.

Is your drive capable of reading a DVD?

You are right. I didn't pay attention and it is a DVD. Now I get to upgrade my computer with a DVD drive. Pushed into the 21st century.

thanks Dave,

Yes, Garmin is only sending DVD discs. I find that odd. It's not like they're exactly a cutting-edge company. Heck...my 2610 doesn't even support USB 2.0 for crying out loud!!! Fortunately for me, my laptop already had a DVD drive in it.

Sorry, Pete - my mistake. Thanks. And you can find a better price for the 256 MB Garmin data card than the one I found.
