I have an 02 LT with the BMW issued intercom (J & M). I would like to use the same helmet (with the microphone and speakers that work on the LT) with an iPod and a Kenwood family service radio on my GS. Is there a way to interface autocom with the J & M headset and microphone. chip

Check with J&M. I was on the Autocom site recently and saw a 12 volt adapter for the Kenwood Freetalk XL made by Autocom and asked J&M if they made such a device. Of course they didn't, but the guy mentioned that J&M headsets either were compatible or adaptable, i'm not sure which, for the Autocom units.
Hope this helps.

If you're looking for a pre-made setup, then the answer is "no". This would probably be something someone could cook up and make some money at, but then they'd have to worry about all the different combinations of intercom systems out there. Sounds like you've got a good do-it-yourself project for this winter.

Chip,

Yes J&M makes a lower cord for the Autocom 7 pin units, I have the setup for my Autocom pro-7 sport and it works great, and as far as the cables for the I-pod and kenwood radio you should be able to find them at the Autocom website.

Sorry here is the part # for the lower cord #HC-ZTO

Yes, but not all lower cords for autocom are 7 pin. Mine happens to be a 5.

I posed the original question to the J&M folks and got this response:

Peter ,,,,,,

There is a new portable product being released in March 2006, by J&M, that will do what this gentleman wants to do and much, much more ,,,

Unit will run approx 16 hours from 8 AAA alkaline cells or the optional rechargeable lithium ion battery pack ,,,,,,

Built-in driver/passenger intercom is "true" VOX ,,,,,

FM stereo radio is built-in ,,,, also AUX input for IPODS etc ,,,,,,

Jack for FRS/GMRS portable integration is built into the unit ,,,, along with cell phone integration, GPS and also radar ,,,,,

I will be updating the J&M website at www.jmcorp.com with this new product just after the first of the year ,,,,

And yes ,,,,, this gentleman's BMW/J&M headsets will plug right into this new unit ,,,,,

This unit is named the INTEGRATR IV ,,, J&M part# JMSR-4010 ,,,,,,,

Have a great weekend ,,,,,
