As you may know part of the perks of being a supporter of BMWLT.com (besides the knowledge you helped keeping the lights on) is that every supporter gets his/her/their own mailbox on our email server with the email address of <username>@bmwlt.com and depending on the level of support you can even create aliases, meaning you can create alternate <name>@bmwlt.com as long as the name has not yet been taken.

Since our databases for the email server and the user database for the web are synchronized this mailbox is automatically created as soon as you become a supporter (within 5 minutes), BUT this also means that if your subscription lapses your mailbox will be deactivated, and after a while automatically deleted. Please do not let your subscription lapse, or you may risk loosing information in your mailbox.

Yo, Andreas, we get any kind of storage with these addresses? If so, how many megs? Or, is it smegs? I just cain't seem to keep it straight.

You most certainly do get extra storage.

Here is how it works:

Basic Supporter ($12/year)
1MB email storage, in essence this is an email forwarder (you can set the email to be automatically forwarded to an account of your choice)
50MB storage in the Gallery

Standard Supporter ($30/year)
10MB email storage (which if you download your email via POP is enough for most folks, but not enough to keep your email stored on the server for a long time via the web interface or via IMAP)
1 email alias Meaning if the name is not already taken you can create a secondary email for yourself.
100MB storage in the gallery

Gold Supporter ($60/year)
100MB email storage. Now we are talking! This is for many folks already enough to keep a size-able log of email.
1 email alias
1 email list You can even start your own managed email distribution list.
1GB Gallery storage

Platinum Supporter ($120/year)
1GB email storage
5 aliases
5 email lists
10GB Gallery storage

AND on top of that we are in the last phases of rolling out more services for our members, which will then again have increasing possibilities for the higher tiers of supporters.
