This past Saturday, I went to the bike show in Seattle, and while doing the usual (hmmmm, did I already go down this aisle??) I found a picture at a booth that somebody had taken of a bike coming out of a right hand corner (photographer was on the inside corner) and then had been severely altered. It was a GREAT shot.....the photo looked like the pixels had been enlarged and then lengthened by a bit.....all pointed towards the center of the print.
Wish I could explain it better........but hoping that somebody will know exactly what I'm saying.

I'm kicking myself in the BUTT for not having my camera with me.....

Anybody have any idea about what program has this feature in it?? TIA!

It may be as simple as opening the picture in some editing software and sizing the width with the aspect ratio turned off?

Not sure what you mean...............pretend you're talking to a real dense guy.
But I am getting goosebumps thinking I may getting close to an answer.....
Thx

ThxSome graphics editors allow you to "preserve" the proportion of height v. width.

If you don't want to preserve that ratio you can stretch (skew) the picture one way or the other. I think that's what TxWhiteKnight is describing.

Yep what Howard said, I have one software package that when you go to the menu item of sizing there is a check box that says maintain aspect ratio.

some editing software if you click on a picture and it puts the handles on each corner and the middle of each side you can click and drag on the ones in the center and it will streatch in that direction (width) but not the other direction (height).

Did it make it worse?? Do you have Microsoft Powerpoint? it will act in the way

There's a lot of cools things you can do with photo editing software - Adobe Elements or CS...

The picture was probably "pixelated" and then "pinched" or "speherized" - see attached for VERY crude example (sphereized toward the center)... :)

Someone more skilled than I could do much better...

There's one such program available for Free, our very own "Zotter" turned me onto it, it's called Gimp, it's a very powerfull and complex program but it will do anything you want it to do and a whole lot more than I know how to do, the price is right and it's a lot of fun to play with.

Ok......a faint light way off in the horizon.......

Gino
That's somewhat in the right direction....if you filled it with huges square pixels we'd be closer.

SB
Will try a search on google and see what comes up.....thanks!
Found "Gimp" all right...will download this evening and see what it has......Thanks for the clue!
Will also try and figure out the other suggestions too.....thanks you guys!

Was it something like this? I did this using the Extrude filter in Photoshop.

May be Crystalize filter under Pixelate in the filter menu of Photoshop CS3 from what you describe.
Plus one of the distortion filters added.
Hard to tell without seeing example.
My bet would be it is from Photoshop.

...my eyes hurt now....

FWIW - Adobe Elements also has that filter - fun stuff!

Thanks David for pointing that one out...! Sometimes there are so many options on these programs you get lost...

Tell me about it! I only use about 15-20% of what Photshop has to offer at any point in time. It amazes me that that you can take an average picture and with very minor adjustments really make it nice. Or you can get really artistic and futz with things like we've played with on this thread. I have friend who's a professional photographer and he's taught me a few tricks. Funny thing is i've taught him a few, too! I don't know who was more surprised, me or him! :D

I have a touch of "Carpal" in both wrists.......but that sure didn't prevent me from sitting at the keyboard for a few hours and playing around with a lot of the things in Photoshop......could barely feel my hands/wrists afterwards....but it was worth it!! Still couldn't find that "extrude" thing...but then again I got all absorbed in everything else.

Having a blast!!
Thanks again.......

I'll take a look when I get home and try and point you to it. It was underneath some other filter 1 or 2 layers deep. They do try to ide all the cool toys! :D

Found it............thank you very much........
The fun part is gonna be trying to remember what ALL those things do.....my head is still spinning!

Now the search is on, on how to do a black border when printing things out.

To put a black border do this in photoshop:
Select all. (Cmd key plus A on a Mac)
With selection made go to "Stroke" under Edit menu.
Set width to say 4, 6, 8, 20, what ever size border you want.
Color: black
Location to: inside
Normal opacity
100%

Click Ok and you will have a Black border around image.

After you've done it a few times very easy.

OK, glad to hear. Sorry for the delay in responding; things got a little crazy the last couple of days.

Hmmmm....Check your scale settings for printing. May need to set to "scale to fit".
If black border is showing after doing as instructed in Photoshop it should print as well unless scale is making it outside paper size.
You also could set scale to 50% as test and print image smaller to see if that makes it show up.
Also could try a larger pixel width size for border to make bigger.

Yeah.....the first time, I couldn't see the black line.....made it to size 25.....then it showed up all right. Will give your suggestion a shot tonight and see what happens. Thanks!!

The border size is affected by resolution of image. The higher the resolution the more pixels needed in the border width.
In other words 4 pixel border on low res image(300-400k) is nice but on 6 meg file it would barely show.
Hope it works out for you.

Ok............... did a print at 90%.....had the border at 25 I think.....the picture printed out with a border at the top and the bottom but not the left or right. Actual print was .5 to .75" less than the paper (8.5x11).

You need to be sure your tongue is just right and stand on one leg maybe. :(

I think your printer must be hexed.
If you want to send me the file I'll check and see it will print on my printer.

There is something not normal going on.

You'll have to forgive me for letting a few days slip thru here before I get back on....sorry!

How do I send you a file like that? Or are you wanting me to send you the picture I was trying to do?
