I've been wanting to have the Voice II system installed on my '03 for a while now. Yesterday while at my local dealership I just happened to notice my final drive leaking from the front end. It's under warranty so no real problem there. Dealer told me it's gonna require about 12 hours labor to repair as they have to tear the bike way down. Then I got to thinking....now would be a good time to have the Voice II system installed. The bike's gonna be torn apart anyway. Got a price of $1069 out the door. That doesn't include the headset for the helmet or anything else. Does that price sound fair to you guys?

Over a grand and no headsets!!!

I've got about $300 in the intaride and am very happy. I've never heard or operated the Voice II but I'd have to use it all day every day to pay 3 to 4 times as much for it!!

Ditto.

Having said that--the integrated J&M/BMW , Baehr units and AutoCom are very nice.
Just more money than needed and not truly much more capable.

The unit with PTT, harness, etc. is what, $750-$800? That leaves $200-$300 of dealer labor. That may be a just a tad bit high, but not much. The installation cost is not in panel removal (quick/cheap), it's in all the installation details -- taking apart the radio compartment, drilling holes, routing harnesses, etc. -- and mostly in areas that won't be disassembled for the drive work. It might be worth asking how many tech hours are included in that price, and whether the price is the "standard" rate or factors in that the bike will already be apart. Still, that doesn't strike me as horribly out of line.

If that's still to rich for you, you can always buy the V II and install it your self. The installation is by ne means difficult, just long.

Twelve hours labor? If it is just the rear drive, it should take about an hour to swap out with a new one. If the leak is at the front of the swing arm, then maybe a couple more hours. Heck, it took us about four hours to replace the clutch slave (including removing the swing arm and drive shaft), and that was with four people helping. I'm sure it would've been quicker with less cooks. :)

If it is a tranny seal or main seal leaking, then I can see a lot more time involved. Either way, warranty should sort you out.

I just purchased the Voice II Kit for $636.65, I believe the list price is $749.00. Basically the Kit includes everything except the head sets and lower cords. I did the install myself. As someone else here said, it's not difficult but takes lots of time routing cables and making all the interconnects to the existing radio equipment.
