View Full Version : Weird - can't start a new thread? System trouble?

Does anyone know if there is a problem with the BMWLT forum system?

Since yesterday, Nov. 19, 2007, I am trying to start a new thread in the "Bikes" forum. Everything appears OK, including the "Preview Post" feature.

However, when I finally click on "Submit Thread", I get either a blank page in FireFox or a cannot-display-page message in Explorer, or a server-closed-connection message in Opera. I tried a few diffferent machines from different locations, with Windows 2K and XP, so that I am pretty sure the issue is not on my side.

It appears as if the post is accepted even after the posting-procedure crash, because when I try again, I get the notification that I am trying a duplicate post within 5 minutes. Yet, none of my attempts showed up in the forum display.

Comments? TIA.

Well, since my post in this forum was successful, I went back to Bike Talk forum and tried to post my original message there again.

Failed again. Seems like Bike Talk crashes new threads, but this forum is OK.

Intriguing.

Gets even stranger - today is the 19th.

Got me... :o

I meant that I was trying since the 18th (Sunday). Good catch, though.

Actually you almost got me. I have a meeting the morning of the 20th and when I saw your post I thought I was in deep you-know-what.

Checked the date and started breathing again.

I thought I was in deep you-know-what. I thought that was Standard Operating Procedure for you Lee. :rotf:

OK, I think I figured it out.

Originally, I prepared the text of my message in another application, then copied into the BMWLT message-submission form.

I passed the text though a text processor to strip any special characters, but I guess that something stayed embedded and continued to mess up the forum message handler.

I re-typed my message directly in the form, from scratch, and this time it worked - the post is placed in the forum.
