My Fiance and I want to get married in Scotland, then travel through France Belgum Hollland and maybe Germany.

Has anyone shipped a bike to Europe or would it be cheaper to rent one?

I have a 2006 LT, Steel Grey. I got it for Christmas 2005 and have 20,000K so far. (thats about 12000 Miles) mostly 2up. I LOVE to ride

Thanks

Norm

Borrow my bike when you are in Scotland then hire a bike on the other side of the channel - much easier arranging insurance and the bike is set up for driving on the wrong side of the road. Ari shipped his bike from Germany to Canada and some details are here : http://finnstoccr.blogspot.com/

Put a post in the Europe forum and I am sure someone will know where you can hire a bike.

Heck, borrowing bikes is the easiest way. But if you can't....

For me it really depends on the length of time I'll be in Eur. General rule of thumb is if more than 45 days- ship my bike. If less, rent. It's also a bit more difficult (post 9/11) to ship your bike but there are a few folks who can handle the shipment for you and I gotta say...truly worth the cost if you decide to ship your bike. Besides all the paperwork, they receive it, store it and make sure it's ready to ride when you arrive & vice versa when you leave.

Not Scotland and not even Canada but there's a Ro-Ro ferry twice a week between New York and Southampton - about $900 each way for an RT, with the big advantage of no pre-shipping prep needed at all, just documentation. You may find similar in Canada? Check the shipping agents.

I found out about it from a company called International Specialists Inc in Boston. Contact is Mike Vaughan <mike@isi-boston.com>. The $910.00 rate includes: USA Terminal charges, Ocean freight, Export documentation fees and formalities. You have to deliver the bike to the New York terminal, or they can arrange shippping for a fee.
Other info:
Tel: 617-357-9383
Fax: 617-357-9436
Visit us on the web: www.internationalspecialistsinc.com

They also offered me another rate - pick the bike up, pack it and ship it to either Felixstowe or Liverpool:
1. Felixstowe, UK: $1,785.00
2. Liverpool, UK: $2,045.00

The above rates include: Local trucking of the container, USA terminal charges, Loading & Securing of the Motorcycle inside the container, Ocean freight, Validation of Title with U.S. Customs, Export documentation fees and formalities.

Hope this helps!
